Sairam Brother Soumendra da,

You can count on me for collective

prayers once a week for all those who are suffering. I am open to any

suggestions on which prayer / mantra to say / chant and number of times

chanting is required.

In the past at the end of my daily prayer (ritual) sessions I used to pray

to God for my, my immediate family's, my other relative's and some times my few

friend's welfare. After realising that all are part of this world, I have

started ending my daily prayer sessions by chanting Loka Samastha Sukhino

Bhavantu 3 times instead of taking individual names of kith and kin. In fact

all of us do chant Loka Samastha........... 3 times at the end of bhajan

sessions.

At personal level I feel that we must make efforts to progress on spiritual

path by accepting what ever happens as good. So called woes, such as ill health

of self or kith / kin, problems in relationships / work place, financial losses

etc., must be seen as working out our past karma ( past lives and this life).

Yes these things do cause pain and misery, we need to go through such pain

otherwise we will have to suffer the pain later as Karma has not worked itself

out. What we can do is follow SWAMI's teachings, live an honest, righteous life

without verbally / physically hurting others, helping the needy, trying to

realise that HE is present in every animate and inanimate thing in this world (

most difficult part because once we reach this stage then there will be only

LOVE towards all, there will be no anger / envy / hatred etc.). As for death,

it is inevitable. All of us are so much used to identify ourselves with our

bodies and relationships there of, when soul of a close relative or dear friend

sheds its body we do grieve, it is natural as we are limiting ourselves to the

body. So the goal of our Sadhana is to realise that we are not the body but the

atma, which is a part of Paramatma (GOD) and see that GOD everywhere.

What you said is just right. we are all going in the right direction, moving

form the finite, individual "I" to the infinite Universal " I the Self"

Dear Madhusudan,

This is a wonderful post ... thank you for posting it.

I would like to add one thing ....

In our individual paths of spiritual sadhana .. in helping ourselves to progress

to seeing all as Atma .. by praying

for others .. even though Karma is what it is and we must

endure what we must ... As the Rishis have done through out time and space .. We

pray for others because it

helps us to understand the nature of this world, its maya and the futility of

Samsara .. It invokes compassion from

us and helps invariably to truly see that this world is an

illusion filled with pain and that everyone around us .. is merely ourselves ..

so we should open our hearts and

pray for those who are suffering and lost on the sea of

Samsara .. we do this for ourselves .. as well as them because it is one the

highest forms of Seva .. to See

God in all things and to have compassion for all as such.

Many Swami bless everyone

Melody

sai ram madhusudan,

what you said is absolute truth. we have to realize that we are not this body

and our aim should be to reach our actual home i.e swamy's feet.

Dear Sister Melody,

Sairam. Thanks a lot for your kind comments, I do

agree praying on behalf of some one who is suffering does help in the sense

that individual will get the strength to bear the pain. The pain can only go

away when that particular karma ( of past or present life - which we do not

know) gets fully worked out. Joy and sorrow are two sides of the same coin, so

our aim is take both joy and sorrow with equanimity. SWAMI has said that gold

has to go through lot of heating, beating and other processes before it becomes

a beautiful ornament. Similarly we humans have to go through various

tribulations in life for spiritual growth, so when ever we are in a such a

situation we should not despair but surrender ourselves fully to the SUPREME

and pray for strength to bear the pain and suffering. You are right when you

say that when we pray on behalf of others needing support it is seva.

Actually what you are doing is great, if I was in your situation I doubt

whether I would have responded to messages being posted. We pray for quick

recovery of your husband.

Madhusudan
