SAIRAM!

 

In 1950s, Swami used to compose songs in pristine and chaste Telugu

that expound the intricacies of Vedanta and teach them to devotees.

Once Swami also declared that one can find solutions to all kinds of

wordly problems faced by mankind in these songs. In this series of

songs titled "Sathya Sai Geethamulu", some of the songs are composed

by Swami Himself while the others are composed by devotees and

rendered in the Divine Presence.

 

We Sai devotees offer our prayers to the Lord mostly in the form of

Bhajans. But sometimes our heart longs to speak to Him. To sing His

Glory, To recount His Divine Leelas. Sometimes we feel like fighting

with Him, pleading with Him, arguing with Him and describe our Love

for Him. These Sathya Sai Geethamulu would come to the best use in

such a mood.

 

In this collection you find wonderful Leelas of Swami, songs

expounding the miraculous and enchanting Divinity of Swami, prayers,

pleadings and sweet fightings. Most of all, the thing that attracted

me to these songs is the pure and sweet Telugu as in Tyagaraja

Keertanas. The same longing of heart, the same devotional ecstasy.

 

I strongly believe that all Sai devotees must listen to these songs

because of the primary fact that - these songs are written/composed by

the Lord Himself! We can see in these songs how the Divine Mother

Herself is teaching Her children so tenderly, so sweetly, how to love

Her!

 

I started translating them into English for circulating among my Sai

friends. I shall send them to the group at a rate of two songs per

week. On completion, I shall make a pdf file and send the whole set.

 

In case someone already has tranlsations, please let me know. I

request comments/suggestions/corrections of these translations from

the members.

 

I also attach a pdf file with Telugu script of the song. If someone

Oh Man, Step forward in the journey of your day-to-day life

With Truth, Rigteousness, Peace and Love

 

Yathna prayathnamul maanava dharmamu

jayaapajayamulu dhaivaadheenamu

 

To put effort is man's duty

Victory and Defeat are at God's discretion

 

Bhakthi thoda bhagavanthuni thalachuchu

nithyadharmamulu nirvarthinchina

 

Remembering God with love

If one discharges his day-to-day duties

 

Atti janakunaku rajayogamuna

andharaani mokshambu andhene

 

Such a man in the Raja yoga

Shall attain un-attainable salvation

 

Hridhaya bhoomulu saagu cheyandi

mee mee manasu madakaga gunamule edhul

 

Plough the land of your heart

Your mind is the soil, Gunas (qualities) are the oxen

 

Vivekamanu chalakolanu theesi

visaalamagu mee hridhayamu dhunnudu

 

Taking the whip of discrimination

Plough your vast heart

 

Maanava dhairyame manchi eruvuga

premadhaarale panta vithuluga

 

Human valour as the fertilizer

Love as the seed

 

Bhakte varshamu bhaavame tharuvulu

brahmaanandhame pandedi panta

 

Your devotion is the rain, your feelings are the plants

Bliss is the ultimate crop that results

 

Prakriti dharmamula pattu vidakandi

karma yogame janma dharmambu

 

Never leave the Dharma that is your nature

Undergoing the penance of Karma is your primary duty

 

Smarane maanava janma rahasyam

Saadhane bhaktula saara lakshanamu

 

Smarana (Chanting) is the ultimate secret of human life

Practice is the essential quality of devotees

 

Kashtasukhamulu karmalanakandi

mana ishta lopamu kashtamounandi

 

Never say that pain and pleasure are a result of past Karma

It is your lack of interest that appears as a pain

 

Pattu vidaka aaa paadhamu kolachina

gattu jerchuta thana pattenu

 

Hold on to His Feet

He shall fetch you to the shore

 

Edhanu vidadu edabaayaledu

mimu yeluchundu e velanu Sai

 

He shall not desert your heart!

Sai is your ruler, all the time!

 

Karunaye athadu athade karuna

karunakai kaachi pondhandi

 

Proclaim that He is Compassion, and Compassion is He

Strive for His compassion and win it!

 

Ashta sidhula saadhanendhulaku

adhi vatti bhramalatho kattiveyunuga

 

What is the necessity of struggling for Siddhis (Occult powers)?

They would only bind you in illusions

 

Dhattamaina eee jeevithaatavilo

vatti naamame patta pagalou

 

In this dense dark forest of life,

Lord's Name alone is the broad daylight

 

Modhati pattunu viduvabokandi

aadhi pattulone bhakti pattandi

 

Do not let loose your first hold!

Achieve the devotion in the very first step!

 

Enni baadhala pondhina bhagavath

chinthana maathramu vidakandi

 

How-many-ever might be the hardships you face,

Never give up the remembrance of Lord!

 

Word-to-word meaning:

 

Sathya = Truth

dharmamu = Rigeteousness

santhi = Peace

premalatho = with Love

nee = your

nithya jeevana yathra = Journey of day-to-day life

saaginchu = Carry on

Jeeva = (Oh) man!

 

Yathna = Effort

prayathnamul = Increasing or expanding Efforts

maanava dharmamu = Human Duty

jaya + apajayamulu = Victory and defeat

dhaiva + adheenamu = God's discretion

 

Bhakti thoda = with devotion

karuna = Compassion

karunakai = For compassion

kaachi = Wait

pondhandi = achieve (or obtain) it

 

Ashta sidhula = For the eight Sidhis (Occult powers)

saadhana + endhulaku = Why the Saadhana (practice or penance)?

adhi = That penenace

vatti bhramalatho = with mere illusions

kattiveyunuga = will bind (you)

 

Dhattamaina = Dense

eee jeevithaatavilo = in this forest of life

vatti naamame = The Name alone

patta pagalou = Would be the broad day light

 

modhati pattunu = First hold

viduvabokandi = do not leave

aadhi pattulone = In the very first hold

bhakti = devotion

pattandi = Achieve (it)

 

enni = how-many-ever

baadhala = hardships

pondhina = obtain (endure)

bhagavath = God

chinthana maathramu = rememberance alone

vidakandi = do not leave
