Guest guest
Could anyone post the Sanskrit term for self-confidence? Thanks. Swami says without self-confidence we can not accomplish anything either in the external or the inner, including self-realization. (Swami's 4s = self-confidence, self-sacrifice, self-contentment and self-realization.) However, I find it difficult to precisely distinguish Ego from Self- confidence. We could say Ego = over confidence but that doesn't seem to be precise. I understand the following terms: Self (True Self)= Aham = Atma Ego = self (false self) = Ahamkar = "I am the body" = "I am separate and distinct from God." Egoism, Egotism, Vanity, Pride = Madha Is faith in Atma (Self) Self-confidence? SaiRam. kc.

Sai Ram, to my understanding/knowledge Atma,Aham - Self Ego - Ahamkaram Atma Viswasam - Self Confidence. Ego can never be compared to Self Confidence. Self Confidence helps one to reach higher goals. Ego is false pride that one can do any thing but not in practice. I think Ego is in comparison to others. These r just my ideas looking for better explanation from other brothers/sisters. sai ram. ---------- saisree <saisree Wed Mar 2, 2005 11:09pm Re: [saibabanews] Could anyone post Sanskrit term for self- confidence? SAIRAM The sanskrit term for self confidence is Atma-Vishwas. The one that has faith in the Atma. That is why Swami repeatedly requests his devotees to know thy SELF. The moment you know you are the self, which is the all-knowing limitless being, and stay there, then you have atma-vishwas...self-confidence...and then cycle of birth and death becomes clear...and you wont wish to be born again, because the SELF-atma-limitless being, never dies. Guest guest
SaiRam. Thanks to everyone who posted Sanskrit term for Self-confidence. You were all unanimous that Self-confidence = Atma Visvasa(m) = Confidence or faith in Atma (one's own divinity) Also, from my memory, Swami teaches Self-confidence (Atma Visvasa) is the foundation, Self-sacrifice are the walls, self-contentment is the roof and the self-realization is the life in the house. So this statement means start with faith in Atma, make self(ego)-sacrifice, develop self-contentment and reach self-realization - like building a house starting with strong foundation. Only with strong faith in one's own divinity, sacrifice and contentment, self realization is possible - otherwise it can become elusive. kc.
