Guest guest
SAI SMARAN – A READER’S DELIGHT I got this book “SAI SMARAN” as a gift from a sai sister. I started reading it and got immersed into the beauty, grace and depth of this excellent book written by Dhirubhai Jagjivandas Gadhia. I found it not only highly exciting but also provided a sense of peace and joy in reading this wonderful Granth. Dr D J Gadhia in this book describes his encounters with Sai Baba from 1960 till now, his marriage (performed by Baba), and his experiences with saints and sages as well as devotees in many countries. It also presents many facets of Baba's teaching on the nature of divinity, the essence of all religions, and the importance of love, truth, right conduct, peace and non-violence in our daily lives. It is a fascinating guidebook for spiritual aspirants (sddhakas) of all backgrounds. Dr Gadhia was born in Kampala (Uganda. East Africa) and attended Bhavan's College in Andheri, Bombay (Mumbai), before starting his medical studies in Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, near Mangalore. It was at about this time (1960) that he heard of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and made frequent visits to Baba's ashram in Puttaparti and became a close devotee. After qualifying (M.B.B.S.) and with Baba's blessings, Dr Gadhia travelled to England in 1963 and obtained the D.T.M.&H. diploma in Liverpool. On returning to India in 1964, he was a lecturer in M.P. Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Always inspired by Sai Baba, he dedicated himself to serving the people everywhere — in Mangalore, Gujarat, and other places - by spreading Baba's message and teachings through bhajans (devotional singing), study circles and service activities. In 1968, Baba asked him to return to East Africa where he served for three years as Chief Medical Officer in H.H. The Aga Khan Dispensary in Arusha, Tanzania, before opening the Aum Sri Sathya Sai Dispensary, also in Arusha. Apart from his medical work, he was an indefatigable promoter of Sai activities wherever he went. In May 1974 he was miraculously rescued by Baba after a serious car accident near Arusha. In 1978 he was still suffering from severe pain and disability due to the injuries sustained in the accident and, during a visit to India, was cured by Baba of both pain and disability. In 1979 he left Tanzania and settled down in Leicester, England. A foreword of this book written by Dr Ali Husein, a medical graduate from Oxford University and the Bulletin of the World Health Organisation, and also the editor of WHO Chronicle edited this book - “SAI SMARANAM” Foreword….Dr Ali Hussein Every page of this book is saturated with LOVE for GOD! This is because the author. Dr Dhirubhai Jagjivandas Gadhia, many years ago became a bhakta or devotee and surrendered himself as a loving servant of God. For this reason he refers to himself as SAI CHARAN DASANU DAS, which means the servant of all devotees at the Feet of Lord Sai. Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the present Avatar, is the Incarnation of all the names and forms of GOD who, notwithstanding the multiplicity of names and forms, is ONE. Sri Sathya Sai Baba is the Divine Catalyst who transformed the young medical student over forty years ago and made him into what he is now - a person whose every thought, word and deed is dedicated to "Beloved Swami" and "Beloved Baba". This is not surprising because, according to Baba. the link between Gadhia and Swami - between man and God - has been continuous over many lifetimes and will go on. The Lord having granted him considerable physical strength and mental equipoise, Dr Gadhia - filled with selfless love for all - has been promoting, at the grass-roots level in all continents, Sai Baba's message of Love and Service to Humanity. He is therefore an instrument that has brought many thousands of people to Beloved Swami. This book is for young and old, men and women, devotees and unbelievers, and people of all countries - in short, for everyone! It presents Gadhia's personal experiences with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, extracts from Baba's discourses, practical advice on sadhana (spiritual discipline), and numerous stories of people's experiences and miracles. Some of these extraordinary events will bring tear to the eyes of the reader because underlying every story is God's (Baba’s) compassion and love for all! Like the Sri Sai Satcharita of Shirdi Sai Baba's life and teaching, this book will be read over and over again by devotees and will bring miraculous changes in their lives. I can vouch for the fact that, during the preparation of this book, there were moments when what was impossible - because of time or other constraints - was achieved. I can only attribute this to the Will (sankalpa) and Grace (kripa) of our Beloved Baba. It has been my privilege to work with Dr Dhirubhai Gadhia and his collaborators in getting this book written and published. Last but not the least, I am very happy to thank Baba for "everything"!
