Guest guest
Sai Ram Mantra Pushpam is a veda mantra, belongs to Hindu religion and vedas, more exactly it is a part of Taittrya Upanishad (Taittriya Aaranyakam 1.22). Swami describes this Upanishad in brief: Sathya Sai Baba "Upanishad Vahini," Chapter XI Taittiriyopanishad. About mantras concern to Taittiriyopanishad He writes: "The Manthras of the Yajurveda are used very much in Yagas; with them, food is offered ceremonially in the sacrificial Fire. Hence, it is considered as the Head. The sound of Yajus produces modifications which are auspicious. That is the reason for the significance attached to the other Vedas also. Thus all manthras become the causes of mental modifications. These in turn illumine the splendour of the Atma; thus the Vedas and the Mystery of their Syllables belong to the Science of the Atma itself. The Vedas become, therefore, eternally valuable and eternally existent." Mantra Pushpam as part of the Taittriya Aaranyakam is one of the most famous of all veda mantras. This mantra is recited at every properly performed pooja and could have been heard by almost all of us in many major functions or poojas etc. This mantra denotes how water is the basis for fire, air, sun, moon, stars, clouds and seasons. Mantra Pushpam is chanted during floral offering. Om! O Devas! May we hear only the good with our ears; O the ones to be worshipped! May we see only the good with our eyes; may we have strong limbs and bodies, which will enable us to pray and worship the Devas. May we live unto such time the Devas feel we should live. May the Lord Indra, of great fame, shower some grace and good on us. May the Lord Surya (the Sun God), the knower of all, shower some grace and good on us. May the Lord Garuda, who has an unfettered clear path (to liberation), shower some grace and good on us. May the Lord Brhaspati shower some grace and good on us. Om Shanti ! Shanti ! Shanti ! That one who knows the flowers of Water, he becomes the possessor of flowers, cattle and progeny. Moon is the flower of the Water. He who knows it to be so, he becomes the possessor of cattle and progeny. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. Fire is the source of Water. He who knows the source of Fire, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of Fire. He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. Air is the source of Water. He who knows the source of Air, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of Air. He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. The Scorching Sun is the source of Water. He who knows the source of the Scorching Sun, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of the Scorching Sun. He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. Moon is the source of Water. He who knows the source of Moon, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of Moon. He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. The Stars is the source of Water. He who knows the source of the Stars, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of the Stars. He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. Clouds is the source of Water. He who knows the source of the Clouds, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of the Clouds. He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. That one who knows the source of the Water, he becomes established in his Self. Rainy Season is the source of Water. He who knows the source of Rainy Season, he becomes established in his Self. Water is the source of Rainy Season (Samvatsaras). He who knows it to be so, he becomes established in his Self. He who knows the raft that is established in the Water, he becomes established in that itself. (This paragraph has got a hidden meaning – this is to say that there is a raft available to cross over all the forces of Nature and to see the God beyond all of them – God himself is the raft – we have to seek His help to see Him. We need to understand that He, indeed is the raft. This fact is also reemphasized by one of the Tamil Saivite Saints who sung thus: “avan arulaalae avan thaal vanangi” – meaning – “Worshipping Him by His Grace”. We worship and praise Lord Gubera, who is the Lord of Lords and who is the giver of all victories. He, who is the fulfiller of all desires and the Lord of Wealth, let him bless me with enough wealth to fulfill all my desires. Praises to thee, Gubera, the Lord of Wealth and King of Kings ! (This mantra is very often chanted at the time of deeparadhana at all temples – this starts with the words “raajathi raajaya”) Source-references: http://www.vedarahasya.net/mantra.htm The texts of Vedic mantras are represented in site of 'Temple of Veda' by little other aspect however, the main meaning remains the same always. Visit the site: http://vsr28.tripod.com/id1.html It is meaningful to note that introduction to the home page 'Temple of Veda' is written by Swami. Why do we say that the sound "AUM" is identical with Brahman? This sound "AUM" is a combination of three syllables: (1)'Aa' (2)'Oo' and (3)'M'. 'Aa' is connected with awareness. It is called 'Viswa 'OO' is the subtle and is connected with ideas of the mind, with dream. It is being considered as 'Taijasa'. 'M' is causual, is connected with cause and effect and is related todeep sleep or 'Prajna". So when the sound 'Aa' joins with 'OO' and when the sound 'OO' joins with 'M' we get the complete sound (AUM). That is when the 'Visva' merges into 'Taijasa', and 'Taijsa' into 'Prajna', we get the darshana of Atma. In the same way it is only when we are able to combine i.e. the three states, the waking state, the dream state and the deep sleep stage, or combine the gross, the subtle and the causal aspects into one, we have a chance of getting a glimpse of Divine Soul. Thus AUM, 'the Pranava', represents the entire content of Brahman. -Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Namaste - Reet
