Guest guest
Sai Samithi-3 The involvement of the devotees in several social activities in and around Nangnallur has ushered in a new lease of life to many students, old people and the poorest of the poor. According to Baba, God resides in each and every individual. Thus, doing some sort of service or ‘seva’ for them is like serving the Almighty Narayana - thus ‘Narayana Seva’ came into existence. A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach goes the saying: Baba’s devotees fulfil his divine command by supplying food to the needy. The food is prepared at home and served at a common place - this is called ‘Narayana Seva’. '); Eye camps are conducted once in two months regularly. Vans and buses are arranged by the Samithi to take the patients to Pammal for eye check-up. Operations are done free of cost and glasses and medicines are given. This eye cataract camp is done on the last Wednesday of a particular month. Several people have benefited from this. The Samithi has adopted ‘Ram Nagar village’ and the ‘Balavikas’ classes are held on all Sunday mornings. Baba is particularly fond of youth and old people. Thus Mahilas visit an old age home in the 24th Street at Nanganallur to keep the inmates in good spirits. They entertain the old ones by singing bhajans, etc. It is a rewarding experience, declares a mahila. Baba’s birthday, which fell on November 23, Tuesday, was celebrated by the Samithi members in an exemplary manner. The week-long programmes included the social and spiritual activities which Baba has laid down for the betterment of mankind. Villupattu by Kothamangalam Viswanathan (son of Kothamangalam Subbu - a great name in Villupattu), dealt with the life story of Baba. Besides distribution of prasadam, umbrellas were also distributed to parents of the ‘Balavikas’ students. Since Baba transcends religion caste and creed, Christmas is celebrated by rendering special bhajans. Baba, known for his catholicity of outlook and taste, has embarked on a unique and noble mission to help the poor and the needy and also redeem human beings from miseries. People from far off places visit this temple town of Nanganallur on a spiritual pilgrimage. They can visit several temples at one go. One evening, a woman, whose name is not known, after worshipping Lord Anjaneya, whose temple is nearby, was walking alone to proceed to the city. It was dark and she was confronted by thieves who attacked her for her jewels. She called aloud Baba’s names. Suddenly, they could hear a siren sound. Thinking that the sound was coming from a police van, the thieves fled. The woman was unhurt and did not lose her jewels. But there was no police or van in the vicinity and the siren sound also stopped. Who enacted this drama? Who saved the woman? It is anybody’s guess. The woman rushed to the Samithi at once to thank Baba for his abundant grace and narrated the incident to the devotees there. Devotion is a catalyst to salvation. Her total surrender to Baba made her emerge from the ordeal unscathed. Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi, which is housed in No 25, 2nd Main Road, Nanganallur, is a spiritual edifice for devotees who throng the Samithi everyday to pray and seek Baba’s blessings.
