May be some break or discontinuity due to some reason while contituing it for the life-time but you need to worry for such interruptions.This regular chanting of mantra( recitation of "om sai saranam") & offering kheer & puri on wednesday,will certainly sanctify your activities & thoughts of life which will not only help you in your spiritual rise but will pave a path for fulfilment of your actual needs & noble desires. ..=If you have some specific desire and you want to fulfil it, then you can continue to do it for five weeks, nine weeks or for twenty one weeks and so on, depending upon the type of desire you want to fulfill.
