PUTTAPARTHI: Truth, peace, charity and righteousness are the four pillars on

which the mansion of human life rests. Mere education without these is of no

use, said Sri Sathya Sai Baba, delivering a discourse at Prashanti Nilayam on

the occasion of his 79th birthday celebrations.

A huge gathering of devotees took part in the celebrations at Baba’s ashram

in Puttaparthi.

Baba said it was important to realise the purpose of life. You should

realise why you came here. Without that, living is in vain, he said. He cited

the example of a person without the ability to swim travelling in a boat. This

is the knowledge that saves him if the boat sinks.

"There is much more to living. As you grow, you should work for humanity.

You may face many obstacles in life. You need to have the strength to face

challenges. It is difficult to cross the ocean of life. Sing the glory of God

always," he advised. While man is in a cycle of birth and death, he should use

his knowledge to find the right direction.

Baba urged the gathering to make good use of education. A mere degree is not

enough. "You also need spiritual knowledge. Discharge your duties to society and

make proper use of your degrees," he said.

There should be a harmony between thoughts and deeds. Being born as a human,

you should sing the glory of God and serve humanity. Be prepared to make

sacrifices and serve the country, he said. Source:

about eternal spiritual values are always remains 'same old retoric' at present

and after thousand years (note Reet).
