Aum Sai Ram

"Man must be unmade in order to be remade. I must break you in order to remake you."

"Those of us who have been devotees for numerous years will recognise , from our

often bitter experiences how this quotation operates in our own lives.

To some, it would appear that as soon as we wccept Swami as our teacher and

guide, our life becomes not easier and more pleasant , as we had anticipated ,

but far more of a challenge than we ever thought possible.

Baba has told us that as soon as we accept His teachings, He will acclerate our

Karma , but not to the point where we are unable to handle it.

He also assures us that he will help us to work through the problems and learn

the lessons they provide.

>From time to time many of us wonder whether we can endure much more pressure.

But Baba tells us that in order to be able tp use us as His instruments, He has

to break down all the old rigid habits, behaviour patterns, attitudes, beliefs

and whatever else we have accumulated during the past lives that still hold us

in bondage and prevent us from allowing Him to use us as He sees fit.

It is anything BUT an easy undertaking to go through such a process, even when

we are aware intellectually that it is necessary for our spiritual progress.

Baba has likened this process to the steps that have to be taken in the making of jewellery.

The goldsmith chooses a lump of gold from which he intends to create a specific piece of jewellery.

First, the gold has to be hammered again and again to shape it into the form the

jeweller has in mind.

This hammering process can be so very painful that we need help, which Baba

promises to provide if we are willing to ask Him and stop resisting the process

which will then become less painful."

"........ To achieve that state we must be willing to let go of our desires

whether for something we believe will grant us happiness or whether to prevent

something we do not want from happening. For most people this is an extremely

difficult lesson both to accept and then be willing to practice.

Most of us are certain that we know best what will make us happy as well as what

will cause us unhappiness.

But often when we receive the former we find to our dismay, that it does not

provide us with the joy we had hoped for so is often a disappointment.

Likewise, whatever we have been trying to prevent from happening can often

eventually be seen as a blessing.

We cannot insist or force what we think will make us happy , nor can we prevent

the events that we think will cause the opposite reaction. We should be willing

to accept either one and ask what can we learn from it.

The goal is not happiness, but learning to recognise our real Self , who is

beyond desires and always content.

Surrender, Trust and Accept are the most simple and direct way of attaining this goal.

Surrender to the real Self who knows what we really need and still have to learn.

Trust that It will supply that.

And Accept whatever it may be. "

"Pleasure is an interval between two sorrows , or sorrow is the temporary

absence of joy, and joy is the temporary disappearance of sorrow. " - Let's

thank God : Phyllis Krystal ( Chp. 22 page 42 )
