Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Over the past few weeks I observed

several discussions on “seva.” Most of my Sai brothers and sisters provided

wonderful explanations on this very important facet of spirituality. Some of Swami’s

quo

In all humility, I would like to add just a few more things:

One aspect of seva is definitely all these wonderful activities and projects

that we undertake under the direction and inspiration of Swami. But one thing

we fail to notice is Swami wants us to live in “seva.”

10.0pt"> Doing seva

once, twice, or several times a week is a

wonderful practice but we must not forget the seva opportunities that Swami provides

us every moment of our lives. We

mus

For ins

10.0pt;color:navy">tance, when we are traveling by bus

and an elderly person comes by; giving up our seat for the elder is also seva.

If someone in our office/school needs some form of

help and we extend that – that is also seva. Something as simple as

smiling a

10.0pt;color:navy">t someone can give enormous joy to the receiver and transform our

simple ac

10.0pt;color:navy">t into selfless

service. In essence, serving each and every individual who comes to us would

sanctify and transform our

daily lives into a perpetual seva mode. Seva does not have to be some big

projec

10.0pt;color:navy">t; it can be as small

as feeding a small kitten on the street or putting a few bread

crumbs for birds or helping a neighbor shovel the snow. Every

minu

10.0pt;color:navy">te of our lives, we can perform seva even while performing

our daily duties. At work, by simply

discharging our duties to our best capacity we could transform our work

in

10.0pt;color:navy">to seva. There

are of course instances when we

canno

10.0pt;color:navy">t oblige. Under such situations, we can at least speak

obligingly.

Some of us are involved

in beau

10.0pt;color:navy">tiful seva

projec

10.0pt;color:navy">ts, but when confronted with an uncomfortable situation at

home, we hurt the feelings of our

family members, friends, spouses, etc. We must follow the example of

Swami; every moment of his life is

spen

10.0pt;color:navy">t in “selfless service”

and in giving joy to others.

Dear brothers and sisters, all I am trying to say is why wait to do seva a few

times a week; we can perform it every moment of our lives even while performing

our

daily duties. As Swami always says: “Help

Ever, Hur

navy">t

navy"> Never.”
