Re: [saibabanews] Spiritual guidance

sairam

none can guide you to this except swamy's will

but this idea

" Does anyone know how to attain the highest spiritual level? Are

there "guidelines"? At least how to go about it? I perform

meditation, as well as weekly service in my room at college. I also

perform a lot of community service and i love Him so much that

sometimes i cry my heart out. I feel i want to be with him every

moment and everwilling to drop this mortal coil and be one with him

but just feel i am missing something!. Any help in this regard?"

it self

the greatest step to that i suppose

coming to spiritual level

in simple meaning

it is " identifiying entire cosmos with us and feeling that you are

no different"

hence responsible for all pains , pleasures and sharing with one and

all

is the spiritual realisation

just keep your breathing systematic

enjoy sathwic food

and the rest

wll occur by itself

the thoughts, words and actions wll be guided in the right way

sairam

Re: [saibabanews] Spiritual guidance

Sai Ram. To answer your first question, I feel it is

desirable to avoid eggs (unborn chickens) which strict

vegetarians consider this as a non-veg dish. Why not

go in for other suitable vegetarian items like

soyabeen etc which have plenty of protin like eggs?

As regards your second question which is highly

philosopical, I feel it's better U continue to do your

regular meditation & whatever service U can do for the

good & well being of others without any ego factor &

expecting anything in return. Such service to all

living beings amounts to service to GOD Almighty. May

our good Lord Baba bless U & guide U further. Best of

luck & Jai sai Ram,

Balakrishna Abburi

Re: Spiritual guidance

Dear RN,

Regarding your first question, here's an excerpt from saisanjeevini:

This food putrifies within a few hours and since we are by nature

not equipped to pass out excreta in less than 24 hours, the putrefaction

takes place within us. We are carrying around decaying corpses

within us (we cannot be more graphic) and the delicate lining of the

intestines and the colon absorb the resulting toxins. This is the

reason that countries where meat is consumed in large quantities

have the highest rates of colon cancer.

As for eggs - they rot as fast as meat and fish. Eggs provide the

largest quantity of cholestrol. Besides, the unfertilized eggs are

virtual chemical factories. The hens are kept in the most shocking

conditions - never allowed to roam free in the sun, always sitting

in

one position to produce "assembly line" eggs. They are fed hormones

(for better produce) and artificial yellow colour (which is one of

the worst offenders in children's behavioural disorders) to make the

eggs look more appetising. Unfertilized eggs are nothing but the

waste matter of the hen.

That eggs are "nuggets of concentrated nutrition" is a myth that we

have swallowed for too long. One egg contains almost zero iron, 1200

IU of Vitamin A, a large quantity of Vitamin D and is loaded with

Cholestrol! Compare that to 6000 IU of Vitamin A in a small bunch of

drumstick leaves and 10,000 IU in an even smaller bunch of coriander

leaves. Both these are also very rich sources of iron (as are all

green leafy vegetables). Vitamin D is available from the sun - it is

formed directly on the skin by the action of the sun. AND vegetable

products do not contain any cholestrol!

Most worms, ulcer, arthritis, eczema, asthma, psychiatric, heart,

blood pressure, cancer, and kidney cases respond quite dramatically

when all non-vegetarian foods are eliminated from the diet.

Regarding your second question, the following article might be of

some help and relevance:

Spirituality and Health

the master or servant: our senses and health by Dr. Srikanth Sola,

Atlanta, Georgia

Jay was a new member of the Sai center who approached me one day for

advice on his spiritual practice. He had heard about Swami through

some colleagues at work and, like many who have recently come to

Swami, had his share of questions. Nevertheless, he had turned his

life around, went to the center's service activities, took part in

devotional singing and study circles, read Swami's Discourses, and

tried to repeat the Divine name whenever he could remember to. "But

even after doing all these things," he said to me one day, "I'm

still not sure that I'm growing spiritually."

We talked some more, and Jay noted that he often felt tired, even

though he had no trouble getting enough sleep each day. When asked

about how he spent his time during the day, he said that he usually

started by reading the newspaper while at his home, then surfing the

internet at work for an hour or so each day. His work as a computer

programmer gave him ready access to the internet and, although he

was careful about what he watched, he probably spent more time surfing

than he needed to. He took part in the usual office gossip, and when

he came home would relax by watching TV or reading a magazine.

I counseled Jay about what Swami might think about these

activities. "Without sense control," Swami says, "your sadhana, or

spiritual practice, is like keeping water in a leaky pot. It is

ineffective…. Many clamor for the experience of spiritual bliss, but

few earn it because they find themselves too weak to reject the

clamor of the senses!" Swami likens giving our senses free reign to

driving a car without breaks - disaster is certain. He says, "The

senses should not be allowed to override man. They must be

instruments within the control of man. They are mere servants,

orderlies, helpers."

Like many people today, Jay was ruled by his senses, often to the

detriment of his spiritual progress. What many don't realize,

however, is that their lack of sense control also damages their

health. Swami says that our senses are like taps, and that when they

are opened (i.e., indulged in), our energy pours out of them. The

result, He says, are feelings of fatigue, dullness, or even disease.

Indeed, conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, He says, are

little more than the result of uncontrolled senses. "We should

understand under what conditions… We should use the senses and then

put them under control. Our inner strength will become less and less

on account of unnecessary excitement or unnecessary sorrow. The body

will become ill by mental agitations and distractions. Man ages very

quickly through excitement and sorrow. The reason for not preserving

this sacred instrument (the body) is lack of control over the

senses."

Once, when Swami was exercising His elephant Sai Geeta by rolling a

tire for her to catch, some nearby students marveled at His ability

to spin the tire so far and fast. "Swami, that is because of your

Divine power," they told Him. But when Swami flexed His arm and

asked them to feel His biceps, the muscle was as hard as iron. Swami says

that the reason for his good health, boundless energy, sharp

hearing, and superb eyesight is because He keeps His senses under control -

not because of any Divine power. Today's youth, unfortunately,

squander their health by uncontrolled indulgence in their senses.

The eyes, for example, have hundreds of thousands of nerves in them that

give us vision. But when we look at something bad or unwholesome,

Swami says, tens of thousands of nerves are injured.

How then, to control the senses? In today's world, regardless of

where we live, we are daily assaulted with images urging us to

indulge our senses, as if they were the true source of peace and

happiness. TV, videos, movies, newspapers, magazines, debilitating

novels, talk radio, advertisements, delicious foods, sensuous

perfumes and scents, enticing gossip, the internet and internet

related chats - all of these enslave and weaken us through the

senses. Restricting our exposure to all of these; keeping our eyes

on the ground before us while walking or on the road while driving;

walking away when the conversation turns to gossip or scandal;

keeping good company; practicing ceiling on desires; and offering

whatever we see or hear to Swami - all of these are ways to control

our senses, so that they do not control us.

When Jay started this process in his own life, he found that not

only did his old tiredness lift away, he grew much closer to Swami in the

process. As his devotion and joy grew, he no longer missed the

things of the senses that he had given up. "You know what Swami says about

your mark as a devotee?" he asked me one day. He says, "Your

devotion is best measured by your degree of sense control."

Re: [saibabanews] Re: Spiritual guidance

Sai Ram Venugopal,

Are there measures for teh highest spiritual growth.

There is the Abraham MAslow's triangle that shows the Altruist at

teh peak of teh triangle with some stages inbetween. The stages are

given in the Youth Leadership book by Chibber.

Then again many spirituality scales are given inb many text books.

According to Health and Human services definition, a HUMAN being is

one with lOve, sympathy, empathy, one who has industry, morality,

will put onself through education and hold a meaningful job; will

help teh self, family and the society!

Swami is emphasizing again and again on the easy path of Bhakti,

with self disciplines, and selfless love in service.

All the practices of Ashtaanga Yogas, service, meditation and

reading is to control the mind and purify the senses. The highest

spiritual attainment is teh stage of Jeevanmukta, who realizes the

GOD WITHIN and realize taht this body is just a vehicle for the

beholder.

Tyhe latest discourse of Bhagawan, on the 25th of htis month is

emphasizing this very fact.

1. Unity of Jeeva and realization of Deva in Jeeva (I) The Vyashti

2. Realization of Deva in other Jeevas(WE) SAMISHTI

3. Do service with love just to lift the pain of the other Jeeva as

the indweller in the other Jeeva gets neglected as a result of the

worldly suffering(HE) The PARAMESHTI

Swami wants the YOUTH to LEARN to live with the formless indweller

as the next 32 years till the advent and availability of Prema SAI

are going to be difficult if this reality is not sought by the

youth. SWami is withdrawing himself at his own will now.

Every one of us want to be very close to him and serve him, feed him

and take care of him in gratitude for his advent. But he wills what

he wants. MAke him manifest in front of you the cosmic SAI who is

always with you, in you, around you as your very life breath

"SOHAM".

Love and blessings,

Meena Chintapalli

PS: By the way my book tha is available through Viva publishers in

India, " Brain, Mind and SAI Educare" has spirituality scales with a

scoring scale to see where one is. It is made in the SAI Educare

format with the TAxonomy of Satya, Dharma, Shantiand Prema.

Available on line at http://www.univpress.com

Re: [saibabanews] Re: Spiritual guidance

Sai Ram

I was once reading an article of Swami Chinmayananda wherein he

compares Self realisation to the sleep.

We do not make any extra effort for the purpose of getting sleep.

We only make necessary preparation like cleaning the bed and lying

down etc and the sleep comes in a phased manner on its own. No one

can say that at so and so time I got sleep. It does not come in a

flash.

Similarly the Self realisation has already started the day we came

into the fold of Swami. Just make minimum the efforts required (as

we do while going to bed) by following Swami's instructions with the

harmony of thought word and deed.

Swami Says:

Manas Ekam, Vachas Ekam, Karmanyekam Mahatmanam.

(Those who have the harmony of thought , word and deed are Mahatmas)

Manas Anyam, Vachas Anyam, Karman Anyam Duratmanam.

(Those whose thought, words and deed are not in harmony are Duratma).

Finally, eating EGG is progibited in Sadhana.

Regards

A Anantha Vijaya
