Events at Prashanthi Nilayam - 01 AUG 2004

Today was the second day of the "Festival of Indian Culture and

Spirituality". Swami came at 7:20 a.m. and went straight to the

lobby after covering the ladies side and sat on the sofa. The

program started at 7:30 a.m. with a veena recital by Smt. Padma

Krishnamurthy, lecturer in the music college and wife of the

principal of the music college. The veena recital lasted for 30

minutes and at 8:00 a.m., the second program of Panel Discussion on

the topic "Whether Mother Sita can be taken as a role model by the

modern women of the 21st century also" started. The facilitator of

the panel discussion was Smt. Chetna and the panel members were four

professors/lecturers from the Anantapur campus of the university.

The discussion lasted for one hour and at 9:15 a.m. it was over.

Swami distributed sarees to the panel members just before getting

up, when they they came to prostrate before Him. Swami got up and

walked towards the place where they were sitting (on the interview

room side of the lobby). Swami created a ring and gave to one of the

panel members and vibhuthi to the other three and smt. Chetna.

Sweets were distributed to most of the assembled devotees and mangal

Aarathi was performed at 9:20 a.m.

Swami came in the afternoon at 3:20 p.m. and as in the morning, went

straight to the lobby after crossing the ladies side and sat on the

sofa. He permitted the Hyderabad (Habsiguda) bal Vikas children to

stage a drama based on Uttara Ramayana, with Seetha Devi reurning to

the lap of Her mother Earth after handing over Lava and Kusha to

Lord Rama. At the end of the drama, Swami got down from the lobby

and walked towards the assembled children and posed for photograhs.

He returned to the lobby and sat down. he asked the students to

bring apples for these children, and again Swami descended from the

lobby and went towards the children and personally started

distributing apples to them. After sometime, the two boys who stay

near Swami took over and completed the distribution under the

watchful eyes of Swami. Bhajans were started at 4:40 p.m. and lasted

till 5:00 p.m. Mangala Aarathi was performed at 5:00 p.m. and Swami

left Sai Kulwant Hall.
