Guest guest
Sai Ram to ashitha1007 Following are quotes regarding the significant results of eating various foods: Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. V - p.19: "By drinking intoxicating stuff, one loses control over the emotions and passions, the impulses and instincts, the speech and movements, and one even descends to the level of beasts. By eating flesh one develops violent tendencies and animal diseases. The mind becomes more intractable when one indulges in Rajasic food; it can never be remoulded if Thamasic food is consumed with relish. To dwell in Ramathathwa constantly, one has to be vigilant about food and drink, consumed by both body and mind. The Bhagavad Gita - A Walkthrough for westerners by Jack Hawley Pg.144, #8-Pg.145 #10: "Regarding dietary practices, know that there are subtle elements in food that significantly influence the mind, and therefore shape mental attitudes. This creates a cycle similar to the situation with one's faith; you are what you eat, and you eat based on what you are. And know, Arjuna, that due to the subtile impact of food on one's mind, sooner or later all serious spiritual aspirants have to face up to the issue of what they consume.Sattvic people, for example, consume pure, mild, nourishing food that strengthens them physically and bring pure thoughts and mental cheerfulness. Their foods are fresh, juicy soothing, and agreeable to the body's digestive system. Breakfast is light; the daytime meal is a substantial as required but not more; supper is as light as possible so body organs can rest through the night. Only sattva knows the real taste of food. Rajasic people are drawn to spicy, hot, bitter, salty, acidic, and burning food. Like the people who eat it, this food produces pain, grief, and disease, and hinders spiritual attainment. Tamasic people eat old, overcooked, stale, tasteless, impure, empty, and dead food with no nutritional value. This food returns these qualities in kind to the eater." Sathya Sai Speaks XV Pg.114 Chap.21 Good health & goodness (I will quote only a few excerpts.) "Plant a boiled pulse in the soil; it won't sprout. How, the, can it contribute life to the living? Eat in moderation and live long. Uncooked food, nuts and fruits, germinating pulses (sprouts) are the best. Evil thoughts cause ill-health. Diseases which torment man are many in number; of these, hatred, envy and egoism are the worst. Even doctors cannot cure them, for most of them suffer from these. One should develop equanimity and serenity, if one desires to be free from these diseases. Anger is another enemy of health. Most diseases are mental illness, fundamentally. It is best to preserve one's healths by good thoughts and good deeds. It is best to be vigilant about food habits. Coconut kernel, coconut water, sprouting pulses, uncooked or half cooked vegetables, and greens are good for health." Prashaanthi Nilayam, 30-9-1981 Compendium Pg.78 "An important aspect of Swami's teacings a point he again and again emphasizes, is to take only pure food. Avoid eating animal food.....That type of consumption is not likely to promote spiritual progress." ("Glimpses of the Divine: Working with the Teaching of Sai Baba" B. Rodriquez)

Guest guest
Swami once said - FIRST day mistake, SECOND day practise and THIRD day HABIT. Give it a thought - it not all that difficult - but sometimes we devotees know it is wrong, but what Swami to come and tell us that. He does not come - so we stick to the wrong. Guest guest
Sai Ram Jean Francois - In answer to your question - little by little -first the beef, then in turn pork, veal, lamb, chicken, fish, and other sea creatures, eggs. By the time you get to the eggs (which Swami has told us NOT to eat - fertile or not - you will have raised your vibrational consciousness high enough to decide whether you also want to cut out dairy and go on to eating raw foods. Try substituting the tofu "burgers", "hot dogs", etc. to begin with and little by little you will change your diet. Bookstores have many cookbooks with great ideas for protein substitutes! Good luck! Guest guest
Please make it a point that you do chant"Brammarppanam" before taking food, and think of the poor animal, who sacrificed it's life for you and try to picturise the way the animal is being slaughtered, it's pain, agony.etc. and ask yourself why you should eat this deadbody of an animal when the Supreme Lord bundled me with veggies. Finally pray Swami to give you strength to give up this habit. I assure you, Swami will help you. Guest guest
Sai Ram Dear Brothers and Sisters, As was working on something, just came across this material found in Shirdi SatCharita...I thought it might interest you : The senses etc. can never remain without their objects, but if those objects are first offered to the Guru, the attachment for them will naturally vanish. In this way, all the Vrittis (thoughts) regarding Desire, Anger, Avarice etc. should first be offered and directed to the Guru and if this practice be followed, the Lord will help you, in eradicating all the Vrittis. When before enjoyment of the objects, you think that Baba is close by or present, the question, whether the object is fit to be enjoyed or not, will at once arise. Then the object that is not fit to be enjoyed will be shunned, and in this way our vicious habits or vices will disappear, and our character will improve. source:http://www.floridashirdisai.org/SaiLib/Sat/Chap24.html With Sai Love saibabanews, "jean francois" <JFBERTHE@w...> wrote: > in practical terms, how do you succeed to stop eating meat ? > (it's very difficult for me !) > > sai ram > jean francois
