Stop: Violence, Drugs & Crime

We love Toronto! …are you concerned about the safety of our schools and streets,

and stability of our families and communities?

"It's heartening to see people like Mayor David Miller proposing to attack the

root causes of crime by providing job training and recreation opportunities for

youth at risk of slipping into gang life. And it's heartening to hear community

leaders and the families of victims speak out demanding a change in attitude" -

TORONTO STAR.

"We as the community have a duty to make the change in attitude by practicing

human values in our daily life".

This walk is drawing the attention of all peace loving citizens and community

leaders. Prime Minister Hon. Paul Martin has personally commended this unique

initiative and expressed hope that it will improve the quality of life in our

community.

Why have a Walk for Values? We live in anxious times. Violence and bullying in

our schools, drugs on our streets, gang wars in our neighbourhoods, and greed

and corruption in our institutions are some of the many threats to our peace

and well-being. The values of tolerance, understanding, respect, and other

virtues such as strength of character, and concern for others are gradually

being eroded by negative forces. If we stand by idly, things can only get

worse. Those of us who long for a more caring and kinder world can make a

difference. By walking together as kindred spirits, we can achieve two things:

we can raise awareness of positive human values such as love, truth,

non-violence and peace; and more importantly, we can bring attention to the

urgent need to practice them.

How is this Walk different? Unlike other walks, this is not a money-raiser. You

will not raise money for any cause by soliciting pledges for money! Rather, you

will make the world richer by pledging your commitment to practice values. You

may also be motivated to serve your community through volunteer work, or by

donating blood or food for the needy or doing anything selfless to extend their

circle of hapiness to others. Giving back to the community the very best you

have is the theme of this "Walk for Values".
