     Om Sai Ram

"Mid Day" published an interview with singer Lata Mangeshkar by Subhash K

Jha: 'The PM liked what he heard', 6 March 2004.

The article is long and tells about singer Lata Mangeshkar who previously

has performed Sai Baba bhajan.

Below is an excerpt from the interview with Lata Mangeshkar.

      >You’ve just recorded an album based on the poetry of the prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee…

   > I’ll tell you how it happened. This project had come to me long back.

Various people approached me saying that the Prime Minister wanted me to sing

his poetry. I was hesitant since I wasn’t sure of these people’s credentials.

    >Then Jagjit Singhji sang the PM’s poems and was deeply appreciated. I was

approached to sing with him. But I preferred to do it alone. I waited until I

was sure I would do justice to the poems. I met the PM and asked him to select

his poems for me. He told me to take whatever I liked from his 51 poems.

    >When a young composer called Mayuresh approached me to sing a Sai Baba

bhajan I liked his self-confidence and suggested that he compose a tune for one

of the PM’s poems. We selected six poems and in one of them I’ve just recited

the lines......
