Guest guest
There are different obstacles listed in the Yoga Sutras, like body movement (ie. sudden muscle spasms), I can't remember if overheating through concentration is there, but it's often mentioned in Amma's Awaken Children books and Swami P's talks. Heating up the body through regular exercise is a different topic altogether. Here I'm talking about a more psychic-generated heat, or spiritual heat. I think we're all talking about 2 different types of side-effects: harmless and harmful(signs to slow down). As I had mentioned about the psychological causes, there's 4 people I've encountered who've complained about not-staying in their body (you could actually see the emptiness in their eyes). Everyone experiences this occasionally, but I'm not talking about that. 2 had anorexia (one was a compulsive meditator), 1 was a former anorexic, and 1 was a compulsive faster. All these people had "control issues" common to those with anorexia, and were definitely of the "aloof" type (celestine control drama). During my days of learning and memorizing Amma's 108 and puja learning, and early days of japa, I occasinally experienced complete mental "blanking", but this was due to mental strain, and not a spiritual experience. Anyone who has ever been a waiter or waitress would know what I'm talking about. In my early Reiki days, taking on others trauma's was actually a common problem, which technically should have been prevented by using Reiki. The cause, I found was a co-dependant/over-emphathic quality to a person's personality/beliefs. The only way to over come it was strong detachment. Kundalini 'awakening' in people was very common in my Reiki days and the symptoms are entirely different when it starts to Rise. Awakening can be calmed down by lots of exercise, lots of rest, and lots of eating (especially meat) and definitely a complete break from meditating or anything needing mental concentration. tom Ammachi, "n2amma" <a1driane> wrote: > > Hi Tom, > I thought it might be this-at least I have heard of this before. > Isn't this also in the Pantanjali Sutras? Guest guest
I am replying to this message because I have been listening to The Carpenters' song "Superstar" lately and rememebering Karen Carpenter's death from anorexia such a beautiful silky smooth voice. I also wanted to mention that nearly all of the Yoga Sutras are posted at AmmaBhakti in Barbara Stoler Miller's translation. I don't recall muscle spasms being mentioned yet, but I'm just now getting into the most technical sutras toward the end.
