Guest guest
( just my attempts to understand; nothing serious; so, enjoy ~ amarnath ) 1) The Kingdom of God is within you. First seek the Kingdom of God. Know ye not that ye are the Temple of the Most High? We are all Children of God but we are not consciously aware of this. Thinking we are limited by space-time( especially our physical bodies and egoic thoughts ) we behave very foolishly. 2) Love God and love everyone. Love your enemies. Love is the only force that can conquer anything. Hating an enemy means that you have already been conquered by your enemy. Of course, hate is your greatest enemy. Perhaps the opposite of love is fear which eventually can grow into hate which eventually expresses as violence? Avoid dogma at all costs. 3) Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect. This can be interpreted in many ways. For daily functionality, my 2 cents approach is : A) to have a positive, friendly and helpful attitude. B) to be mentally free from negativity, especially anger. C) to be aware of God's presence and perfection within you to whatever degree; hint ~ silence, stillness is perfect. 4) Non-violence is the practical aspect of the first tree points. Every action of ours, no matter how minute, either strengthens non-violence( harmony and love ) or violence( discord and fear ). Since our actions depend on our thoughts, the practice of non- violence must begin within our minds and hearts. Practice of non- violence must begin with goodwill toward everyone. The least one should attempt to do is not to harm anyone or anything( including our environment). The most one can do is to become an instrument of God's Pure Love. One good way to start is to repeatedly replace thoughts with a loving phrase which must be what the bible means by "pray without ceasing." 5) Forgiveness. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. To be free from bitterness and anger we must learn to forgive. Right after the Lord's Prayer, the bible says "forgive others and God will forgive you; do not forgive others and neither will God forgive you." Forgiveness is the key to healing. 6) Peace. Always strive for Peace. Blessed are the peace makers for they shall see God. The means and the end are one and the same thing. Violent means can never bring about a peaceful end. "The peace that passeth all understanding" is within. Go within and practice without. 7) Humility and Service. We should not try to dominate and control others, even if our position is that of a leader, teacher, head of family, or supervisor. The true purpose of all life is to share knowledge, happiness and prosperity in a gentle and generous manner. Genuine cooperation does not mean submission by one party and control by another party. 8) Not to worry. Store up your treasure in heaven not in earth. Since heaven is within, real happiness also comes from within. Possessiveness and greed( too much dependence on matter) all lead to stress, worry, fear and some degree of violence. Christ always emphasized with words and example that the spirit of the law is the goal while the letter of the law only has value if it guides one within from where the spirit can manifest. First, seek the Kingdom of God within and then everything else will be ok. Spiritually aim for the sky, but materially be happy with fulfilling your needs not your wants. 9) Not to discriminate unjustly. "Judge not so that ye be not judged" seems impractical( if not impossible in daily life ). Yet we can try to comply with the spirit of recommendation by not forming fixed opinion prematurely or unfairly. The scientific approach is that all opinions are simply hypotheses( guesses ) and need to be tested in time. "Spiritual discrimination" flowing from love and inner stillness is what all Mahatmas advise us to develop. Simply put, we should strive to be fair always in everything we consider, not just race, religion and politics. One way is always to check in with the silence and love in your heart first. 10) Turn the other cheek. Be brave, courageous and especially nonviolent in standing up against injustice, corruption and violence. Turning the other cheek is not being passive, it is actively practicing non-violence while exposing injustice. Use spiritual discrimination. If it does not really matter, walk away or even run away. If it really matters, be prepared to offer this body as a sacrifice like Jesus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and many of Christ's disciples, etc; and of course like Mother. Do not worry about correcting others; "Leave judgment unto the Lord." 11) Jesus did not teach dogma or any ideology( religious or political). This is because God gave us free will and He desires our love to be given freely not because of fear or coercion - mental, physical or otherwise. Of course, our love comes from Her love and it's just a matter of allowing it to flow back via our unselfish actions. 12) God's Grace and effort. Although all of above is only possible through God's Grace, we must make every effort from our side to prepare ourselves and become receptive to God's Grace, Blessings and Love. 13) LOVE is all there is ! and it flows from the Stillness/ Silence within. Christ is that LOVE! Amma is that LOVE ! We are that LOVE ! Thank You Jesus, Thank You Amma, amarnath
