Last night in Melbourne, Swami RamaKrishna gave the following

talk. These are my notes.

Jyotsna

It is said that a human life is a great blessing. Amma herself has

said that a human life is a blessing. Those who are having a good

time in life are probably agreeing with this statement, while those

who are suffering may not agree.

Even people who said "I wish I were dead" would not take even

hundreds of thousands of dollars for a body part, were you to offer

them money for various limbs or organs. Artificial body parts cost

millions of dollars. So God has made quite an investment in us!

Only humans can realize their own divine nature and become a

blessing to others. Like fire, we can use our powers for good or

bad. We need to use our discrimination to speak and act in

the right way. We sometimes make excuses for not serving

humanity due to our past life tendencies or vasanas.

Millions consider Amma their own Mother. She never thinks of

herself. Even when threatened with death, as happened at the

ashram last year. At that time everyone was upset except Amma.

She kept all her appointments that day, didn' miss a one. She told

reporters that "Amma is not afraid of death. We all have to die

some day."

Amma says we must be like automobiles and be able to shift

gears. If an auto doesn't shift into a lower gear going up a hill,

the engine will die. If it doesn't shift into a higher gear when

going faster, the engine will burn up. We need to be able to

accept whatever happens. Our unreasonable expectations

rob us of peace of mind. He told us of Amma's visit to Sri

Lanka. Due to the domestic conflicts, Amma was given

very high security. But the day of the program the government

car did not arrive to take her to the program. Unperturbed,

Amma humbly said she'd walk since it was just a few kilometers.

Everyone was awed by her humility. As an official gov't guest,

she could have called high officials and complained. But she

just started walking along. Finally, the official car came and

caught up with her. The officials were very upset, but Amma tried to

make them feel better and cheered them up instead of

reporting them to their supervisors. She showered love on

them. They heard later that those officials became nicer to

their subordinates after that incident.

May Amma's light and love fill and illumine the whole world.

Dear Jyotsna:

A million thank you's for the reports from

Australia.

I like the car shifting example you shared.
