Guest guest
namaste all children of amma, please read with open hearts and forgive this child of any inappropriate words. My 2 cents is that this( LOVE-SERVE-AWAKEN ) is what Amma teaches the most. Of course there are many, many subsidiary things one can do which we call SPIRITUAL PRACTICES and Amma supports all. But, She cautions that whatever we do, if it is done with the right attitude( LOVE- COMPASSION-HUMILITY-GRATITUDE ) it will be fruitful. Otherwise, even meditating your whole lifetime will not bear the fruit of Awakening. LOVE God, SERVE the Poor, AWAKEN to your true Nature is Amma's message loud and clear from all Her actions. Amma also has said that one who can do everything without any selfishness, does not have to do any special spiritual practices or go anywhere in search of God, because God will come to that person. This is just emphasizing the importance of UNSELFISHNESS. Here is a true story which is a beautiful example of this approach: Peace Pilgrim, without any study of religion or access to any spiritual teachers, was guided from childhood by the Golden Rule which she heard in a history class and it resonated deeply within her. It was also clear to her from childhood that it was never right to kill. She did get married, got a job and tried the standard lifestyle. But, when her husband joined the military, there was a divorce. Then she walked and prayed all night until the feeling of surrender came. She prayed to be an instrument in God's Hands. So, her life of service started. She worked just enough to provide for the basic necessities( one room bedroom, food and some clothes ). The rest of the time she was serving the needy. She did not have any goal of awakening, but in fifteen years it came. Then started her pilgrimage( about 28 years if I remember correctly ). She walked until given shelter, fasted until offered food without ever asking. The only clothes she had was what she was wearing ~ a simple blue tunic. She walked in the north during summer and south during winter. She did not accept any money. When someone offered her a bunch of stamps, she said "I only need two for these two letters." How's that for living in the moment. Peace Pilgrim looked at all problems not as problems but opportunities for growth. And anyone expressing any negativity( or even violence ) toward her she felt the deepest sympathy for their inner emotional wounds. There never was an organization, but some friends compiled her speeches at colleges, churches, etc into a book. Also, some videos and audios were made and kept by friends. These were and still are available at no charge for those who ask and cannot afford a donation. In my view, Peace Pilgrim was one of the greatest awakened( enlightened ) saints in America clearly illustrating that Amma's teaching( our duty to God is to serve the poor ) are right on and that Temba is on the right path by the Grace of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. I cannot do what Temba is doing but I can be inspired by what Amma is doing through him just as I am inspired by all the little things( which is more my style ) that many of you do. Hope this was useful for all lovers of peace, simplicity and unselfishness. My intention here is not to glorify Peace Pilgrim or anyone else, but to show that what Amma is teaching us is SO SIMPLE, if we let it be so. Thank you Amma. Amma's Blessings, amarnath may all beings everywhere be peaceful, happy and so simple !
