It may seem that the opposite is happening ~ that Amma is feeding our egos with Her Love. We may feel Amma is loving us as persons ~ our spiritual practices, prayers, poems, understanding Her teachings, seva, donations, our accomplishments, etc, etc. Of course all these are important and Amma encourages all. But She also warns us that ~ inner stillness, love, compassion, unselfishness, alertness, awareness, equanimity, acceptance, gratitude ~ must be present in all that we do. Amma says that every manifested thing comes from God's Pure Love. How is it then, that we see so much violence, pain and suffering in the world? Amma's teachings( as well as other teachers ) clearly pinpoint EGO as the problem. Here are some interesting words from Dr. Hawkins ~ "As the potentiality begins to manifest, the ego instantly takes credit for it. ....The ego's job is to replace God. The ego is a liar." "God does everything; and yet we say: 'I' do" ~ line from a bhajan sung by Amma, Shree Maa, others. So, while Amma is giving us Love, She is also constantly watching for that moment of self-surrender so that Amma Kali may devour our egos and SET GOD FREE. thank you amma !
