Guest guest
I hear you Prasadini. The thought of not reading this list came first to mind as a solution to Tom-ji's current state of crankyness. Second came to mind an actual wave of sorrow for his pain. "Wow," was the thought,"He must really be hurting to be venting and complaining so. Ouch. Poor Tom." Third came to mind the idea of chastising him, some roundabout method that would amount to shushing, silencing, censoring, whatever you might want to call it. There seem to be several minds sharing that impulse! Fourth came to mind a resonant sympathy with the varied travails of keeping up social relationships in a "satsang," and all the attendant personalities. In the greater New York/northern New Jersey area "we" have like four or five or six groups with little sub-groups of people who are friends and people who are "enemies" (or appear to be from the gossip and sniping and clique-energies), and people who are popular and people who are intense, and people who are loving and giving and people who are flaky and spacey, and people who are healers and people who are wounded, and people who are irritating and people who are soothing, and people who are doing sadhana and people who are just doing their thing. Loving Amma and wanting a closer relationship with Her is what we all seem to have in common. But it is like, well, very eighth grade sometimes. I can't tell you how many times the emotions, vasanas, reactions that come to the surface find me stomping my feet, gritting my teeth, and strangely connected to a childish needy sense of "me first" or "me too" or "why is person X doing Y to ME??!?" Sometimes you just have to laugh. Right now, I guess, Tom has to grieve. But I will venture a perspective on the whole concept of measuring lengths of devotional time -- whether describing someone as a "long-time disciple" or a "newbie" or "on the honeymoon" or whatever -- as just plain artifice. We are such dynamic people - evolving, growing, going on ups and downs, hitting dark spots, standing in shafts of angelic light, reacting to astrological periods, working out karma, etc. etc. Does the chronology matter? with love, Prashanti
