Guest guest
I usually chant the LS at home. I am wondering, though, for times when we are in places that it may not be practical to chant aloud, is it OK to do it silently/mentally? Thanks! Guest guest
I do so. while driving to/back from work (any one time). I think it's ok to do so, but it requires great concentration and multi-tasking skills. I frequently bumble and back-track and sheepishly apologize to the goddess and continue. To put a positive spin to it, if you do so, your concentration and multi-tasking skills will likely increase if you try to do silently! in fact you will become aware of the level of subconscious thinking your mind is involved in, and how deep-rooted the process of thinking is. maybe a useful exercise to get us back to silence. jai ma! Guest guest
namaste, YES! LS can be chanted silently. You may notice some devotees do this at Amma's programs. When travelling, waiting for appointment, in hospitals, etc, etc we chant LS silently. amma's blessings, amarnath Ammachi, "ammasiswari" <ammasiswari wrote: > > I usually chant the LS at home. Guest guest
I remember the man who minded the telephone call center did this at the ashram in India! Usually, though, when I've seen devotees chanting silently at Amma's programs, they are at least moving their lips. I was wondering about silent chanting on the train, where I would not want people to stare if I was perhaps looking like I am muttering to myself! ;-D Anyway, I'm glad to hear it's OK to just do it inwardly. Guest guest
Silently is great, but the most can be gained through out-loud chanting, which isn't always practical as you've mentioned. The reason, is the "aspirates" and bija mantras(the power of the LS) will resonate more and affect the atmosphere more. In the learning stages, I've found that from doing a lot of listening, I was able to "hear" the correct pronunciation in my mind during silent chanting, but trying to vocalize it correctly took more practice. Guest guest
According to yoga theory, silent chanting of mantras are better. That is because audible sound is limited in its frequency range, but mental thoughts span a broader frequency range. But it is easier to get concentration while chanting audibly, and therefore that is recommended for beginners. Ultimtately it is whatever works for you. labd Ammachi, "ammasiswari" <ammasiswari wrote: > > I usually chant the LS at home.
