Dear Tom ~ thank you for adding your knowledge to this discussion. I have never heard ot the Lakshmi/Ganesh combination, but it seems like a real boon to combine them in the way you describe. Do you know of any pictures that depict this? I would love to see them. I will ask Swamiji about Ganesha. He doesn't respond to every question, but one of the ashramites will be sure to know. I have always loved Ganesha. Jai Sri Ganesha ~ Linda

Guest guest
Actually the reason why He is invoked first is because He was granted that boon by Lord Shiva, His Dad. - nierika Ammachi Saturday, March 11, 2006 8:54 AM Re: To Tom about inviting Ganesh (was Dayamrita/Amma 108) Tom wrote: >> ...The other main reason Ganesh is invoked first is because he is >> considered the Lord who destroys obstacles on the path of our goals >> and objectives. (Vighneshwara). Dear Tom ~ I got two responses about my question concerning Ganesha being the first to be worshiped or invited to a puja. The second dovetails with some of what you wrote. The first is, I believe, more of the "backstory." Here they are: First Contribution I believe that Lord Shiva gave Lord Ganesh the boon that He would be the first to be worshipped before any undertaking or task. This is after the elephant's head was affixed on Lord Ganesh. Second Contribution Our priest told us that Ganesha is the first to be invited because he is the remover of obstacles of any form so therefore can remove any negativity. Also, Ganesha is the "gateway" to the other deities. He is the closest to our plane of exsistance, and the easiest to get to know. From knowing Ganesha, one is lead deeper. (Ganesha is our family deity, and is a favorite of children!) I'm glad I asked this question, and thank you again Tom for your knowledgeable reply.
