Dear Joanna ~ the triangle and bindu, which comprise the yantra are "drawn" so that the top of the triangle points North. From the picture I have, it appe ars that the devotee also faces North. Traditionally, the yantra is "drawn," You can "draw" the yantra with drops of water or sandle paste on any surface (so, of course, if you are doing your puja on your rug, you might want to have a special cloth, or even a piece of paper on which to draw the yantra. Click on the picture file "pujajpg" Then you will have a wonderful diagram of a way to set up an altar with all the items you need for a puja: Items for your altar like a picture or idol of your beloved guru or Diety or the Diety to whom you are offering the puja, your incense, your candle or oil lamp, and the yantra. The diagram also shows where you might place flowers and other items to be offered; the water pot, and where your Asan (where you sit) is. It's a great diagram and makes everything so clear. But like the bold above says, it's "an example..." If you want to find out more about how and when to use these items and the abc's of doing a puja, come back out of the "pujajpg" and on the same page, click on the text "Beginner Puja.doc Though it appears to be a word file, it is actually a pdf file, but you can print it out. I'm printing out a few pages at a time because there 66 pages. For some reason when I printed out the first 10 or so, the diagram I mention above printed out as part of the document, but if you are looking at the document on your computer, it doesn't appear, so that is why you'd have to go to the "pujajpg" file. I am curious because I may have missed a digest. What is the Manasa Puja? A year ago, I never would have believed that I would have the strength to do a puja, but recently, for Mahashivaratri, I did the "Shiva Puja Beginner" (Shree Maa Bookstore), and I did the whole puja. I was exstatic. Perhaps I won't be able to do longer pujas, but just to know that I do have the capacity to do some amount of worship makes me very happy. BTW, the "Beginner Puja.doc" was the result of an in-digest class on the Shiva Puja Beginner, with the goal of having everyone learn the basic steps in the process of any puja.
