Guest guest
Yes, I agree that not only is the original form the Stotra, and is the most advocated (historically). While any chanting will bring it's good devotional results, it assumes the traditional approach that you do a puja before a stotra. The Phalasruti also, does not differentiate between the two forms. The Stotra is the most commonly available recording outside of Amma's ashram productions. Most if not all the quotes about the LS from Amma refer to Archana (list form) usually translated in the books as "worship". I can't find the posting from a couple years ago, but I thought someone did ask Amma which was best, List or Stotra, and Amma said it was like a mother preferring "mother" or "mom" (neither was better than the other). I have to agree with Dayamrita that the List is more powerful than the Stotra, but only once you're comfortable with it. Doing the Stotra smoothly will bring better results rather than attempting the List and becoming fatigued half way through. That's why groups usually chant a single response rather than the same mantra as the leader. Too many groups I've seen try to chant the List in unison which isn't as effective (one-pointedness wise). Even chanting the stotra in unison can have it's "crashes". Once, a group I chanted with had some of their booklets with pages out of order, and "whoa!" what scene near the end when the group split in their chanting. tom Ammachi, "manoj_menon" <ammademon wrote: > > I have my thoughts of whether the Naamavali is better than the Stotra. > > The original LS (Hayagreeva imparts to Agastya) in Brahmaanda Puraana > is in stotra format. > > So logically, the Naamavali seems to be a new format designed by a > later-day religious head, more for the purposes of doing a more > elaborate puja.
