Guest guest
My guru, Satyananda Saraswati, also stresses the importance of devotion and love... everything else is secondary... the altar, the offerings, your pronunciation of the Sanskrit. He teaches that there are three levels of puja... chanting out loud and making the offerings and doing the mudras, just moving your lips with no sound (speaking the mantras internally) and the manasa puja where everything is within. If someone saw you while doing manasa puja, they would think that you were just in deep meditation. They would not know that you were offering an entire puja within. When he was a sadhu in India he would offer whatever was at hand... sometimes just dried leaves. He teaches that you can always offer the offerings from the garden of your heart. But his pujas in the temple are gorgeous. He arranges everything with such care. Beautiful patterns of flowers. It is a work of art from his heart. Shree Maa told me once that if you pointed to any flower on the altar he could tell you what mantra he had offered with it.
