Dear Keval ~ it is not so much that Karunamayi initiates with the Saraswati mantra because she will teach it to all attendees at a program at the same time. My daughter considers Karunamayi to be her guru, however from what she has told me, she has never been formally initiated, unless one considers teaching a mantra to a mass group of people to be initiation. When I saw Karunamayi many years ago, anyone who was interested could go up, and Karunamayi wrote a mantra, using honey and the stalk of a tulsi leaf, on our tongues. She did not say she was initiating us; I interpreted it to be more of a kind of darshan. The Saraswati mantra is for anyone; my daughter taught it to me, although I think the one she taught me had more words in it.
