Amma, as she is called by millions of followers all over the world, will be visiting Jharkhand for the first time if the visit materialises. She is also known as the hugging saint as she individually meets all her devotees and visitors and holds them close to her bosoms. The spiritual leader, who has “mesmerises the world with her message on loving and giving”, will arrive here along with 400 disciples from Lucknow, said Madhu Maheswari of the Ranchi chapter of the Mata Amritanandamayi Seva Samiti. She is expected to arrive in Ranchi by road late in the evening of March 24. After taking rest, Amma will hold the congregation from 6 pm the next day. She is scheduled to fly to Calcutta and then to a foreign country the next day, informed Maheswari. The congregations involving Amma is know to stretch for up to 30 hours without a pause for food or water. Clad in a white sari, she individually holds all her devotees to her bosom and whispers “loving” words into their ears. And so, the officials concerned could not say when the event would come to an end. Maheshwari confirmed that Amma’s schedule for March 26 has not been fixed because no one knows how much time she will take to individually meet all those who have come for her /darshan/. Amma is scheduled to hold over 20,000 followers to her bosom on the Zilla School campus from 6 pm on March 25. The programme to visit Ranchi was reportedly finalised last month and a devotee of the spiritual mother from her Kerala-based ashram, Swami Jaikishan, is already camping in Ranchi to do the needful. “The devotees will be given tokens with time mentioned for /darshan/ of Amma. The visitors will not be charged any money,” he said, and added that Amma is abroad and likely to reach India in the first week of March. The trust set up by the spiritual leader runs schools, colleges, hospitals and various other charitable bodies.
