Dear manoj, I am glad to see that Bush was more receptive to Ravi Shankar, however, I am wondering if we are comparing apples to oranges. Ravi Shankar is widely known as a musician. There are probably not very may people who also know him as a guru. From the article about Ghandi, it sounds like the initial gaff was made by Bush's "handlers," but then magnified by him referring to the cremation grounds as if that would be where a memorial to someone of Ghandi's stature would be located. It really is more his "handlers" fault, but he didn't respond well when asked. And to see the "born again Christian" identity associated with Bush as a part of this gaff gave me the creeps. Especially given that 10 churches in Alabama have been burned, although today I was interested to learn today that both white and black churches have been targeted for this, so it really is quite strange, unless, of course, the white churches are being hit, just so that the "hate crime" tag won't be attached to the burnings. I hope everyone will pray that the congregations of these churches will receive spiritual support in their shock and grief, and that help to rebuild the churches will be quick in coming. Guest guest
Linda, we are talking of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar here - the founder of Art of Living - , not the sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. Two different people. Sri Sri was a disciple of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi till he struck out on his own, I believe without any animosity between the two, but I don't have much biographical details on their lives. Sri Sri has been famous for propagating the usage of Sudarshana Kriya, powerful breathing exercises that are supposed to release old emotional patterns to take the individual to a much higher effective level. Check out: http://www.artofliving.org This org is as big as Amma's org; actually I think it is bigger. Just FYI, Sri Sri was supposed to have pledged $1.5 million for the tsunami tragedy. Did not follow up on what that org has done so far. Also, Art of Living is celebrating its silver jubilee 18th Feb, where 2.5 million people are supposed to congregate. It seems to be an event similar to Amma's 50th birthday celebrations. One account I read mentioned that Bill Clinton is supposed to also take part in the program. Rediff.com has more details, I just don't have all the URLs readily available with me. I regularly read up on other saints and even follow a lot of points they make, thus making up a very 'eclectic spiritual portfolio', but Amma is at the core of it all as far as I am concerned, and no offence meant to any saint or any devotee! Sri Sri was with Maharishi from the age of 13 and still regards him as his guru. Officially, the TM movement has a hostile stance toward Sri Sri, banishing people who get involved with him. Maharishi said he is offering "sugar-coated poison." But privately, Maharishi often spoke with him on the phone, offering advice and support. I have friends who were in the room with Sri Sri during those conversations.

He does however sing beautifully.
