Mata Amritanandamayi to arrive tomorrow

She will be in the State till February 17; civic

reception planned in Bangalore

 

Bangalore: Mata Amritanandamayi, popularly known as

Amma, will be in the State from February 9 to 17. She

will be here from February 9 to 11 and will

participate in the Brahmasthanam Varshikotsava.

 

Amma's disciple Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri told

presspersons here on Tuesday that a civic reception

will be accorded to Amma on Thursday evening.

 

He said that after the civic reception, Amma will

conduct satsang, lead bhajans, perform special pujas

and give darshan to devotees. Similar programmes will

be held in Mangalore on February 13, Karwar on

February 15 and Davangere on February 17, he added.

 

Swami Ramakrishnananda said the Mata Amritanandamayi

Math is involved in charity work. It has helped

rebuild the lives of earthquake victims in Gujarat and

Kashmir, tsunami victims in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Sri

Lanka, and hurricane Katrina victims in the U.S. The

math provides vocational training to affected

families. In Bangalore, the math manages the

Bramasthanam Temple, an engineering college, Amrita

Vidyalayam, and Amrita Krupa. Amrita Krupa is a

charitable clinic that offers free medical check-up

and provides free medicines to the needy in and around

the ashram.

 

He said the math has constructed over 1,000 houses in

the State. "Amma wanted to construct houses for those

affected by the floods in Belgaum district, but she

wanted to finish the projects taken up for tsunami

rehabilitation first. She will discuss and work out

the details with the authorities concerned here during

her visit," he said.

 

Special transport will be arranged for devotees who

want to take part in the satsang, Swami

Ramakrishnananda said.
