Guest guest
Dear Aikya, I went to the file you posted (I didn't know you are a reverend) and read the whole thing. What a gift to be part of such an experience. I can only imagine what it must have felt like to the chaplains to sing together for the first time ... and all the music treasures they were given. Oh, I am so glad that the M.A. Center (that's who sends them, isn't it?) is so forthcoming with CDs and booklets for things like this. Also, I believe, it will make the chaplains who attended more receptive if COLI letter writing starts to come to their prisoners. I also went to Charlie Thweatt's site and listened to some of his music. So beautiful, so any who'd like to listen (it's kind of an angel thing), here is the link: _http://www.musicangel.com/_ (http://www.musicangel.com/) Thank you for telling us of this and sharing Shannon's Letter, and for doing what you do. Dear Aikya ~ Okay, you made me look : ) I had to check out The Voices of Angels website, and it was well worth visit. I was somewhat astonished to see that the underlying mission is the use of "Inspired Arts" (music, art, etc.) for healing on all levels. Shannon has realized a dream I had many years ago of starting a Center for Transformational Arts... with essentially the same goals. I was also a bit surprised, though I'm not sure why, to find out that the site was interfaith. It looks like the site, and perhaps the program, is still in a formative stage, but the intentions written are magnificent. Here is a little snippet that I especially liked from the "Newsletter" (by Shannon). "The way of peace is a choice available to anyone and is supported by all faiths. Peace is implemented through daily practices of prayer (power of intention), meditation (silence enhancing the ability to see things as they are) and developing awareness of ultimate reality and ones true purpose. These reduce ones reactivity and emotional indulgence and teach one how to meet a disturbance without being a disturbance and how to redirect ones mental faculties to co-creating a world of peace." This really hit home with me, especially as I had just been thinking along these lines this morning...amazing how synchronicities work. Thank you for sharing COLI's contribution to this wonderful gathering and also for letting us know about Shannon and her work. Guest guest
I love that quote from Shannon's newsletter. To reduce one's reactivity and emotional indulgence and teach one how to meet a disturbance without being a disturbance. Wow! That sounds like Swami Satyananda's teachings on prarabda karma. To meet the karma without sending off another arrow.
