Dear Temba ~ all of what you wrote touched me deeply, but this statement, coming from your inner being and heart, as I know it does, reached into my own heart and soul with its INNOCENT TRUTH. So many people (and I'm not referring to anyone on this group) run about here and there seeking enlightenment or Oneness, while ignoring the opportunities right in front of them. Selfless service is the rudder of the boat that takes us across "the ocean of objects and relationships" (this is a Swami Satyananda Saraswati term, but to me, it so completely describes this experience we call "life.") The boards are Faith, Sadhana, Love, and others. The sides are Meditation and other spiritual practices. The oars are are deepest longing to know God/dess and Devotion. This metaphor reminds me a bit of a time when I "stole" my grandfather's boat. Well, he had let me and my friend take it out, so I thought it would be okay ... but, there was only one oar, and I didn't know how to work the motor. So I went from one side of the boat to the other with my paddle, and got pretty far from shore. In fact I was headed toward the mouth where the river ran into the Potomac River (a very very very big one). I was frantically trying to get back to the shore, and not making much progress with only one oar. Fortunately, I was missed, an it was dinner time, so my grandfather came, rode out in his other boat, and towed me to the shore. Thus, even Amma, will come to us, She will help us, She will even give us a bit of a tow if it's needed. What a wonderful Mother.
