One-pointedness of mind ~ Off hand not sure in what context Amma

meant this. But two examples come to mind and they seem to be the

two extremes hard to attain. Most of us are someplace in between

perhaps with some glimpses of the extremes now and then.

1) In activity, Amma has said that if one performs every action

without any selfishness at all, then one does not need to do any

spiritual practices or go anywhere in search of God. Because God will

come to you. And there are fascinating stories of Amma( in various

forms ) appearing to people unexpectantly.

Perhaps, some of you can share stories about this especially if it

happened to you.

It might have happened to me; but I am not sure exactly what

happened. One time in front of a local library, an elderly woman was

sitting on cement sidewalk in meditation position with eyes closed.

As I walked by there was no feeling that this was someone destitute(

althought she could have passed for homeless or beggar by

appearance ) she opened her eyes and said something; I said something

but have no memory of what was said by either of us. I continued to

enter the library; felt something; and then ~ wait a minute, who is

that lady? ~ went outside ~ she was gone. "Was that Amma?" remains in

my mind. This was during a difficult time in my life and maybe Amma

came to help?

I feel Temba is one good example of one-pointedness.

2) The other extreme ~ There are very few people who can sit in

meditation all day or a good part of the day. But there are some

examples.

Werner meditated in what was called a cave continuously; for some

periods of time( months? I think ) he did not come out at all and

food was brought to him; this story is in "Come Quickly my Darling

Children."

Another example is Manoharan( author of "Amma and Me" ); he is able

to meditate a good long part of the day; he does use what is left of

the two caves: he does come out for morning chai( at 6am ) and goes

back to meditating, to eat and to sit very very close to Amma; lucky

guy ~ good meditation karma! It was my good fortune to drink chai

with him a few times.

In early days, when the brahmacharies would devote a whole day to

meditation and fasting, Mother Herself would bring them food showing

by example the truth of Her statement that God will take care of us

if we care only for God( either via selfless service or meditation,

or etc ).

Amma's Blessings,

amarnath

PS ~ sometimes it feels that my one-pointedness is all over the place;

but then again, all of us who dare to love Amma are at least one-

pointed in that respect; and that may be enough !

May all beings everywhere be happy and peaceful !
