Thanks for your reply, premarupa. Amma does recommend "breath-

awareness" and as you say there are many approaches to working with

breath all of which should eventually lead to :

1)as you point out, notice(ing) the space( stillness, silence )

between breaths

2)also, one will notice that the stillness is different after the

inhalation and after the exhalation; after the inhalation there is

the potentiality to act; after the exhalation there is the

potentiality to totally surrender

3)for example, Dr William Martin a Native American who got struck by

lighting twice(?) recommends using the breath for healing as follows

~ After the inhalation hold breath for a second or two and say( in

that stillness ) "Heavenly Father( or Mother, God, Christ, Amma )

please Bless and Heal ( my tummy, my liver, my friend, etc )". This

charges the energy in that Stillness. Then on exhalation, release the

healing energy ~ relax, let go and let God, "Let Thy Will not my Will

Be Done, O Lord ! "

4)another example is simply to do some simple mantra along with

breath like (Ma, Om), (So, Ham), (I, AM), (Je, sus), (Jesus, Jesus ),

(am, mA), (ammA, ammA ) (Who, Am I?)

5)but eventually, (noticing) the Stillness, the Silence will grow

more and more

I ask forgiveness from all the bhaktas that are drowning in Devotion,

in God's Pure Love and are wondering why the need of techniques ?

Clearly Amma emphasizes Love, Compassion, and Seva the most. But She

also teaches us many techniques( many options to chose from ) and

says that these are necessary to make us strong enough to serve the

world without collapsing.

Om Hrim Namah Sivaya,

amarnath

May All Beings Everywhere Be Peaceful and Happy !

PS ~ at a Christmas service at a Self Realization Fellowship Church,

I once saw( in my minds eye ) the beautiful Form of Christ coming

toward me; Yogananda's teachings emphasized a lot that the message of

Krishna and Christ are the same.

Above, I offer William Martin's Healing Breath Technique to all those

suffering from chronic illnesses, etc. May you all be healed by

Amma's Love, God's Grace and some self-effort !

Thanks for listening.

Or, the techniques also can be a path to increasing devotion!
