....SO LINDA I NEED TO BE REMINDED AS OFTEN AS

POSSIBLE TO NOT REACT TO "OFF THE WALL" REACTIONS

AND INSTEAD RESPOND BACK WITH LOVE. THIS IS

A PARAPHRASE FROM AMMA IN AWAKEN CHILDREN.

A SWAMI (NOT AMMA SWAMI) ONCE STATED WHEN

SOMEONE SHOOTS ARROWS

WITH FIRE YOU SHOOT BACK ARROWS WITH WATER BALLOONS.

AMMA IS HAVING US GRIND AGAINST EACH OTHER AND

THE FRICTION HAS A BENEFIT. WE ARE CURRENTLY

ROUGH AND CRAGGY

ROCKS. AMMA TOSSES US IN HER BLENDER (I VISUALIZE

A LOTTERY MACHINE WITH THE BALLS BANGING AGAINST

EACH OTHER). AFTER WE DO THIS FOR A FEW LIFETIMES

THE CRAGGY ROCK BECOMES SMOOTH. THE BLENDERIZED

NOW SMOOTH ROCK CAN SERVE AS AN OFFERING TO THE WORLD...

Dear GeorgeSon,

Thank you very much for your kind words. It is important that I too

recognize that when someone "appears" to be treating me unkindly, in fact what

they

are showing is their wounded soul, which is beneath the mask of the

unkindness. I especially need to do this with my family.

Another swami I have met also uses the analogy of the arrow. He describes

karma as an arrow. Parabda (sp?) Karma, which is from previous lives become

arrows that are already on their way. There is nothing we can do except to not

react by shooting more arrows if someone shoots their arrows at us. We can also

attempt not to accumulate more karma by not shooting any new arrows. And if

another's karma causes their arrows to fly our way, we can duck, step out of

the way, run, hide, but it is a very good thing if we don't try to shoot them

back. Eventually, all the arrows will cease to fly.

I also like the rock tumbler metaphor. Being a jewelry maker (though not a

rock tumbler) I know that many of the beautiful semi-precious stones I work

with have been knocked around a bit. Some end up very nicely smoothed. Some end

up wonderfully faceted, which adds a whole new dimension to the stone and the

jewelry. The faceted ones sparkle and almost seem to shoot off little stars

(light instead of arrows). We are all gems on Amma's necklace.
