OM NAMAH SIVAYA,

It may be worthwhile to point out what the 60's were all about at

least from my perceptions ~ imperfect and relative as they may be.

There seemed to be an awakening/realizing that all our idealistic

institutions and religions have many( too many imperfections,

hypocrisies, corruptions, violence, etc ) and that it was time to do

some honest and hard work at soul searching. In a way it was the

start of Self-Inquiry.

This soul searching expressed itself in the civil rights movement(

which actually started earlier ), hippie movement, meditation, music,

back-to-earth, vegetarianism, alternative approaches to health, non-

violence, anti-war-movement, and some rebellion, etc.

There were big risks involved and possibilities of violence and a lot

of blood shed.

In my humble opinion, it was the non-violent approaches of Martin

Luther King, others and meditation that helped save the day and

prevented/minimized what could have been a lot of bloodshed and a

great disgrace for America.

My gratitude to Martin Luther King, all those who risked their lives

in following him, and many other unsung heroes( mediators, lovers of

peace and prayer, Peace Pilgrim, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, many other

spiritual teachers, etc ) who chose the path of non-violence at the

risk of their lives.

Also, there was an earlier Gandhi-King connection. Rev. King's

convictions were obviously influenced and strengthened by a Gandhi

Non-Violence Workshop that Rev. King attended.

These are just my opinions in my imperfect mind/world.

I did attend one anti-war-rally in Washington DC. Also, was a

spectator at Indiana University in Bloomington at a very dynamic

student protest against war etc. There definitely was some benign

powerful spiritual force keeping things from erupting at both events.

Love, Light and Peace to All,

amarnath

~ with Amma's Blessings

May All Beings Everywhere be Peaceful and Happy !

And a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Rev. King
