namaste,

i did get somewhat addicted to chai at amritapuri which is served

daily from amma's kitchen at 6AM and 4PM. one cup is free for ashram

residents; extra cup i think was 2 rupees. there are two lines:

one "with" and the other "without" referring to "sugar".

normally i am a vegan( due to milk allergies, etc ) and chai is 50%

milk and 50% water. i made some exceptions at the ashram considering

the food as "amma's prasad" and that the cows are treated with love

and free from toxins.

and drinking chai in amma's court either by myself or with one or two

other people there at 6 AM was very nice ~ in silence; i suppose

others were busy either with seva or meditation. sometimes i would

go to the roof of a seventeen( 18? ) story apt building next to

temple, watch the hawks( eagles? ) and drink my chai ~ usually by

myself or very few others and watch the sunrise ~ in silence. with

anywhere from 1,000 to several,000 people visting the ashram daily(

30,000 at amma's 49th birthday )private time can be rare. mondays

were days of rest(?) after the devi bhava on sunday( ending monday

morning ).

however, at home i have found a nice alternative at least for the

chai :

ginger tea from freshly grated ginger root with soy milk( instead of

dairy ) sweetened with raisins or dates.

ginger root can kept in fridg fresh for about two weeks and there is

a special grater usually a small ceramic plate with teeth on bottom.

Enjoy with Amma's Blessings,

amarnath
