Guest guest
Om amriteswaryai namaha ~ dear friends, The following nutritional/medical science seems to reinforce Amma's warnings about COFFEE, SOFT DRINKS, EXCESSIVE SALT, ALCOHOL and CIGARETTES. A Negative Calcium Balance( NCB ) occurs if more calcium is lost from the body than is absorbed from the diet. Calcium is lost mainly from bone... The following contribute to A Negative Calcium Balance: Coffee, Soft Drinks( sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine ) Alcohol, Cigarettes, Drugs, etc Excessive Salt Animal Proteins( including dairy, fish ) ~ so far I am not aware of any warnings about animal proteins from Amma directly; but Amma does say( sometimes ) "go by the advice of your doctor". Perhaps there are other things; the above is what comes to mind now. My doctor says that Animal Proteins not only contribute to a Negative Calcium Balance but also are associated with various cancers( the scientific link seems as strong as for lung cancer and cigarettes ). Taking huge amount of Calcium Supplements does not solve the problem; it can even increase the Negative Calcium Balance not lower it ! My medical doctor( who I see only during free public lectures; knock on wood ) recommends getting your absorbable calcium mainly from plant food( especially green leafy veggies ) and to make sure you get enough vitamin D either from sun light and/or a good supplement; there can always be exceptions due to health and environmental situations.
