Guest guest
Like the real essence of the teaching of Yoga, Amma give descriptive advice instead of prescriptive advice. She states plainly what is preferred and why, but lets people do as they like, as She knows they will anyway and won't condemn anyone. She may not say look either stop smoking or don't come back here, but She may point out, in various ways depending on the person and circumstance, that smoking is not the better Path to take for where the person wants to go and/or just in general for health and many other reasons. Surely some of you have observed this with some Indian ciggarette smokers that have come to at least San Ramon, where She very publically comments and makes a scene regarding this. - ecjensen_us Ammachi Thursday, January 12, 2006 7:35 AM Re: Amma on "Intoxicants" -Bela OM NAMAH SIVAYA maybe she doesn't give us "rules" because she wants us to make up our own minds. i think only then will we have the conviction of our beliefs, and not be imitating like monkeys, or doing just because we were told. in Ayurveda there is a saying, "Everything is for someone and nothing is for everyone." Guest guest
Namaste, Very good point you’ve made here. I really enjoyed the Buddhist quotes, as well. I was thinking along those lines with my statement, saying that we will continue to abide by what we feel is acceptable for us, until/unless Amma makes a specific statement regarding using intoxicants. But like Mahamuni stated, She knows (and we know) that if we are strong in our convictions, we will continue doing what we feel is acceptable in our minds.
