Dear Prasadini ~ I wasn't going to make any further posts on this topic, but I thank you for your reasoned compassion. I have recently had to switch from Darvocet (better than over the counter, but rather mild pain med) with Vicodin as a backup for more severe or "breakthrough pain," to Vicodin as my primary pain med (with the dosage raised from 5 mg to 7.5 mg. I have no back-up now, and the relief I get from the Vicodin is only for about 3 hours, and even during that time, I am not pain free. I am only supposed to take it every six hours, which means I deal every day with severe pain, or I dismiss the time-frame and take the next Vicodin sooner. A specialist I saw recommended to my doctor changing my medication to time-release Oxycontin (a really strong pain med) with Percoset for stronger or break-through pain. He was well aware of the vicious cycle of a person in my situation not having ongoing pain management and said that what many people face is enduring severe pain until they can take the next dose of what their doctor has prescribed, or they take the dose sooner than they are supposed to and face the possibility of a face-off with their doctor. My doctor was not ready to put me on a stronger pain med, so that is why she changed my pain management to Vicodin as the primary med. I don't think anyone who hasn't lived with severe, chronic, ever single day of your life, pain can really understand what it is like and what lengths people will go to to stop the pain. For people with Fibromyalgia, where the pain becomes progressively worse, suicide is a high risk. And I am very sorry for the woman who accidentally killed herself, and knowing what I know, I wonder if it really was an accident. Again, thank you for speaking up for us ~ Linda
