The attitude of a disciple is important. Put the Guru's

teachings into action. The guru/disciple relationship

is based on devotion. The guru can enter the

disciple's heart only if the disciple opens the door.

In bhakti, the disciple sees everything as the supreme

Lord.

Self-Realization is the process of inner awakening. It

cannot be attained by money.

Many run after lots of teachers. Does the person who

has the maximum number of lovers have the most love?

Don't go to various "doors" for God. Take refuge on the

ocean liner of the guru. Here Amma told a long story

about a bird on a ship. The bird tried flying from the

ship to find the shore, first one direction, then another.

Finally, the bird was exhausted and came back to the

ship to rest. The ship took the bird to land.

Then Amma told a story about elephants. There was a

small elephant that didn't think it would get enough

bamboo to eat if it stayed with the large herd. So it

kept running ahead of the herd to the next bamboo grove

to get some bamboo for itself. But then the herd would

come and the small elephant would leave and run ahead

again. At the end of the day, the rest of the herd had

eaten enough to be satisfied, but the elephant that was

constantly running ahead did not get enough to eat.

Likewise, Amma said, we run around trying to get peace

of mind.

Keep the fire of longing alive. Sacrifice to know God.

Despite thinking that we are making no progress, don't

give up our spiritual practices.

Distance is no barrier to pure love. Hatred is a

microscope.

The disciple has to experience karma. When we surrender,

the guru will take 90%. For the real disciple there is no

pain or pleasure. All is the guru's Divine Will.

Life is an examination hall. We are being tested.

We are like satellites in orbit. We need a booster

rocket to achieve our goals, even worldly goals.

Where there's true love, the attitude of sacrifice will

automatically be there--relinquishing one's likes

and dislikes for another person. We are essentially

all one. God is the pure consciousness in all. This

love should begin in the family. Life's real treasure is

love.

Dear Jyotsna:

Thank you for the note taking Seva.

During the Michigan '05 satsang I

recall Amma saying a slight bit more

on one "Sutra?"

Jyotsna's notes on Amma say:

"Despite thinking that we are making

no progress, don't give up our

spiritual practices" ...

I seem to recall one more sentence

in this segment of the Satsang. It was

something to the effect (the next line

saying)

WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS ALL THE TIME

BUT WE ARE UNAWARE OF THIS.

Anyone in Michigan recall

this Amma wisdom?

At any rate I am grateful to

Jyotsna for dutifully conveying

Her nectarian wisdom.

It is extraordinally helpful during my

winter of separation.

Humble prostrations at Her Feet,

GeorgeSon

Namah Shivayah, Georgeson,

Thank you (and others) for the kind words.

I, too, recall Amma's making the statement

you mention, but I didn't have it in my

notes, and I couldn't recall if it was in

that particular talk in Michigan or not.

At some point she did indeed say that we

were making progress whether we were

aware of it or not.

In Amma's love,

Jyotsna
