Medical Marijuana and Ram Das

Dear All,

I have to agree with Linda here. I, too, have followed this thread

with great interest-having been a former pothead in my early years. I

do know of people who have used marijuana for purely medical reasons

with M.S. with good results. Also in Mexico they have used marijuana

for medical purposes (different types for different ailments) for

centuries. I have had an injury to my hip that often is excrutiating

from a automobile accident. Some have told me that it might alleviate

the pain. However, just as I don't enjoy alcohol any longer, I have

found that any substances as this-if not necessary medically-muddy up

the mind and spirit. I liked Rick's statement from Maharishi about

the clean, now muddy elephant as well and Sweta about Amma saying it

could feel like a spiritual experience but is not.

I recall before Ram Dass (sp?) became "Ram Dass" he took his first

trip to India with a pocketful of LSD. Upon approaching the guru

(whose name I don't recall and I"m too lazy to look it up..and no,

I'm not smoking...lol...)..The Guru extended his hand and motioned

that he wanted what was in his pocket. Ram Dass was stunned as the

Guru put ALL of the LSD into his mouth. There were several hits of

acid-enough for many people. The demeanor of the Guru remained

unchanged, all the while smiling and seemingly unaffected.

Another story:

I had the opportunity to meet yoga teacher from India, Indra Devi,

when I attended college about 30 yrs ago. Coming out of the culture

of drugs and diving into yoga and meditation I also asked her about

drug use. She said that they were very dangerous in that they made

your consciousness expand beyond what you would be ready for. That it

can cause great unbalances mentally due to this. So that is just

another take on it.

Hari Om .

The name of Ram Das's guru is

Neem Karoli Baba.

Devotee: " How do I find God?"

Neem Karoli Baba: " Serve People".

Devotee: "How can I raise the Kundalini ?"

Neem Karoli Baba: "Feed People".

of Krishan Das's CD - Breath of the Heart )
