Karunamayi is quite big on the Khadgamala stotram. It

is usually sung at Karunamayi's public programs. No

"initiation" as such, though if you've seen the

pictures from Karunamayi's tour devotees are

instructed to raise their hands above their heads

(like a football referee signaling a touchdown!) while

the stotram is chanted. Karunamayi has a CD

available: Learn Sri Devi Khadga Mala Stotram In this

learning CD, Amma teaches the pronunciation of each

word, and also chants the entire Sri Devi Khadga Mala

Stotram, so that listeners can easily follow along and

learn. The "namavali" version, in which each name in

the stotram is recited as a separate mantra, is also

taught on this CD.

if you would like to receive Karunamayi's blessings,

her tentative 2006 tour schedule is at

Yes, I have seen that CD on sale on the karunamayi Ma site before, but

did not buy it as my hesitation about the initiation still bothers me,

and I don't want to disrespect any sampradaya (tradition) or teaching,

either intentionally or inadvertently.

But thanks for the info of the tour, Keval. I know She comes to the

Hindu temple at ATL during the April timeframe; I have not been able

to have Her darshan so far, but who knows what's in store for the future?

A couple of years ago, I saw Karunamayi for the first time. She chanted the

Khadga Mala stotram, & I don't recall what else she said about it, except that

we had all then been initiated to chant it. I've chanted it in Amma's presence,

& it then feels especially powerful.
