Namaste Kalika, Your concerns, doubts, etc are understandable. We all have them and we all deal with them differently. My view is that my doubts, disappointments, anger, etc are all thoughts in my head. >From Amma's teachings and my own experience 35 years ago it seems that the head is unreliable ~ it wants to understand everything but it cannot, it gets confused, frustrated, doubtful, fearful, angry, etc. The only refuge I find is resting in the heart where there is Silence, Love, Amma and NO WORDS, NO THOUGHTS. Here is Amma's quote referring to WORDS( thoughts ) in Scripture, but it seems this is applicable to all words( all thoughts in the head ). "Theory [studying scriptures] can help, but there is a limit to its value. After a certain point, words or speech become a hindrance, a great hindrance. Eventually, you will have to drop the words. But this is not possible if you study them without the correct attitude. Don't be bound by the words of the scriptures. Study them with the attitude, 'This is not the reality, and therefore, I should not feel attached to it.'" - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p122 (0126) This is not so simple ~ we all have to deal with our thoughts and our doubts as best as possible until we are free of our thoughts and our doubts. Meanwhile, we can use words to pray, to praise God, to provide helpful/inspirational info to others, to work, etc. Below is what helped me to realize not to take my words or anyone else's words too seriously and that what I may consider as a "fact" is really colored by my own perceptions distorted by my thoughts in the head. I was once a physicist 35 years ago. Thanks to the deepest grief in my life, I started my spiritual quest. Lost 40 lbs, meditated a lot, ate veggies and fruit and nuts, spend a month with Maharishi, fasted, read spiritual books for the first time instead of technical books, enjoyed nature, had an ice cream cone single dip once per month, etc. One day, I determined to solve all my doubts, uncertainties, indecisions by formulating a cosmic formula ~ in my head appeared beautiful mathematical logical thoughts of symmetries, infinities, point values ~ BUT STILL NO CLUE WHETHER IT'S DHARMIC TO EAT THE ICE CREAM OR NOT. Mind completely exhausted descended from head to rest in the heart. ~ PEACE, STILLNESS, SILENCE ~ then something unusual, unfamiliar ? ~ what is this ? ~ could it really be after 31 years of life ? ~ for the first time ? ~ the non-verbal answer was ~ YES THIS IS GOD'S LOVE IN ITS PURITY ! very softly ~ so subtle yet so powerful ~ seemingly permeating, maintaining all For a second, the head asserted itself with this doubt : ~ oh yeh! can the heart tell if it is dharmic to eat the ice cream or not ? ~ doubt followed by great fear ~ realizing the great danger of staying in the HEAD ~ quickly took refuge in the HEART God's Love still there. ~ started so gently so silently ~ yet expanding ? ~ later exploding in BLISS, in LIGHT ~ yet peace, stillness, silence still undisturbed This was God's Gift to me who doubted His existence but several months before. ~ a vision of my spiritual goal ~ a guarantee of sorts ? On this journey, sometimes disappointments, doubts, anger, etc at myself, at God still do appear. ~ o God, o Amma, why so long ? ~ what lessons still to learn ? ~ all seems in vain ~ all seems so clear ~ distance from head to heart so near "To experience spiritual bliss, the head must fall down into the heart." ~ Amma( Berkeley video ) The burdensome thoughts in the head still struggle while offering themselves to Amma's Love in the heart. Having touched Amma's Feet several years past, let the mind and all its doubts gradually dissolve according to Amma's Invisible Plan for me. Hope these words help but don't take them too seriously. Amma's Blessings from my Heart to Your Heart, amarnath ~lokaha samastaha sukhino bhavantu (3x) ~om santi santi santihi ~MAY ALL BEINGS EVERYWHERE BE PEACEFUL AND HAPPY ! ~THANK YOU AMMA !
