Who can run away from death? When you are born, death also comes with you. Each moment of your life you are getting closer to death. People are not aware of this. They are so enmeshed in pleasures of the world that they totally forget this. There is no time when death does not exist. In fact, we lie always between the jaws of death. The wise ones are aware of the inevitability of death. While living 'in life,' a wise person acquires the mental and spiritual strength to live also 'in death' or to live in eternity beyond death. He dies to his ego. Once one dies to the ego, there is no individuality, and thus there is no one to die. The waves are nothing but water. After one wave rises and falls, the same ocean waters take the form of another wave in another place. Whatever form or shape they may take, they are nothing but the ocean waters. We thin k that we are the body, an isolated wave, and that we are finished forever when the body dies. This fills us with fear because we do not want to die. Thus we grieve when we think of death. We want to run away from death. "Only if you knock at the door of death, will you transcend death." --Mata Amritanandamayi
