Hi Erica,

My "overwhelming devotion?!??" Wow. You must have mistaken me for someone

else. :-) ... I am far from having true devotion.. if you read chapter 12 of the

Gita , Lord Krishna enumerates about 40 qualities of a true devotee- as I read

it , I realized that I didnt have even one of them :-)

but that was Sri Krishna. Our modern day Amma is far more tolerant- being

the "Avyaja Karuna Murthy" ( one of Unconditional Mercy) that She is, She doesnt

need to see any quality in us- just one overriding factor helps me get near Her-

the simple fact that I am Her child. Being the Mother, She cannot reject any

child.

Even Shankara says " Bad children there may be many, but a bad Mother

never"...

So I dont have overwhelming devotion- the truth is that Amma has

Overwhelming Love, Overwhelming Mercy and Overwhelming patience.

Dear Bala,

I am so overjoyed for you!! My heart exploded with happiness and a

smile came over my face when I read your post. I have had the blessing

of reading your wonderful posts, seeing your reaction in Her presence,

and I know that I have only seen but a tiny bit of your overwhelming

devotion and love for our Amma. To be honest, I have thought on more

than one occasion that I would be satisfied to have even one half of

the devotion that you have for Amma...

Amritapuri is "lucky" to have you, and I will miss seeing you on US

tours.

My sincere wishes for a safe trip. I know that everything else, Amma

will provide.

Dear Bala,

The eyeball cannot see itself, I suppose. :) Your devotion shines

through your humbleness, Bala-ji.

You are right to point out that Amma has all of these things and

more. She shows us the way. She is our mother, who loves us even

when we "mess up". She picks us up when we fall and scrape our knee,

as long as we cry out for her. It's all such grace.

It reminds me of one of the very few things I remember from going to

church (I stopped going when I was aged seven years):

She is The Light, The Truth, and The Way.

JAI JAI MA

All the best,

Erica

P.S. I am working on my conversational Tamil, so maybe we can have a

conversation in Tamil by the time I come to Amritapuri! ;)
