Guest guest
Namah Shivayah, Can anyone offer ideas for seva that one may perform individually, especially if they live in an area without a satsang or soup kitchens etc.?? Any creative ideas for getting meals to people in need or possibly starting something up in your own community? For example, can a Mothers Kitchen be started in an area where there is only one devotee, and how would that be done? Any examples of one person orchestrating a program or making a difference will be appreciated. I ask because I live in an area with ZERO fellow devotees and very few volunteer opportunities. I don't even know where to start and am sick of feeling that there is nothing I can do. Yet, I am always finding myself with extra food and wishing I could somehow share it with others in a more direct way than just donating canned food. Awhile back, I had heard of a program where you cook a meal for someone in need (elderly, poor etc) several times a week....and this really appealed to me....but I can't seem to find it now. I tried delivering food directly to the homeless on the street in a particular area, but we found it to be dangerous and sometimes unwelcome, so that method can be sketchy. My wheels are just spinning in an effort to try and come up with something and I am sure I can't be the only one in this situation. Jai Ma! Guest guest
greeetings my dear sister .your brother can relate to the seemingly zero devotees in your area. one thing that he has done is put together a flyer that in the next two weeks will be circulated throughout his neighborhood about who AMMA IS.AMMAs son is inviting people to his house to view video tapes of MOTHER OR WHATEVER. as far as the MOTHERS KITCHEN GOES.AMMAs son is sure that someone can give you feedback on that if you truly have the desire to do it.AMMAs son has been homelesss before on the streets of newyork city and when someone came and offered him a meal that was the hand of GOD to him. you should really consider trying to give the food out yourself again.you can do it during the day.AMMA WILL PROTECT YOU AND ALSO YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT THE PEOPLE ,BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HAVE SIMILAR FEARS ABOUT YOU.YOUR HEART IS SO EXPANDED JUST FOR THE MERE FACT THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DO THIS. THE FEAR IS MORE IN YOUR MIND THEN ANYTHING ELSE.IF YOU ARE CONSISTENT WITH GIVING MEALS AWAY TO PEOPLE ON THE STREETS THEY WILL LOVE YOU.PLEASE TRUST THIS WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART.AMMAs son knows this first hand. you dont have to bring money with you or anything of value.if you bring your heart and the food ,AMMA WILL PROTECT YOU.IF YOU CAN MUSTER UP THE COURAGE TO BRING A PHOTO OF MOTHER WITH YOU AND TELL SOMEONE ON THE STREET THAT AMMA IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOU FEEDING THEM ,THEY MIGHT WANT TO KEEP THE PICTURE IN THEIR POSSESION GIVING THEM HOPE. AMMAs son has experienced this firts hand.he has been on both sides of the fence where this is concerned.IF YOU GO AGAIN AND TAKE THE COURAGE OF AMMA WITH YOU IN YOUR HEART YOU WILL BE FINE.YOU WILL END UP HAVING SOME OF THE MOST HEARTFELT CONNECTIONS THAT YOU HAVE EVER HAD.DONT BUY INTO THE FEAR.YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.AMMA IS ALWAYS WITH YOU. >"Ananthasree" <ananthasree >Ammachi >Ammachi > Seva Ideas? >Wed, 21 Dec 2005 23:48:11 -0000 > >Namah Shivayah, > >Can anyone offer ideas for seva that one may perform individually, >especially if they live in >an area without a satsang or soup kitchens etc.?? Guest guest
Also... why not try writing letters through Circle of Love or Circle of Love Inside? I just mailed out my first two letters today to two women who are incarcerated in California. It was a great feeling and I look forward to their answers. I also volunteer at the local elementary school by tutoring a little eight year old girl in reading. This is the third year that I have been a volunteer tutor. Hospitals and nursing homes are often happy to receive volunteer help. With your wonderful artistic and creative talents, why not share at a school or nursing home? Just look into your heart and into the heart of Amma. Seva is always there if you are looking. Guest guest
ONS, Ditto the idea to write for Amma's COL. I live in the mountains, between 2 satsangs, & this works for me. But, Amma.org's staement that this iseva is for devotees with little time, can be seriously misleading. While giving personal attention to each recipient, it can easily take hours each week. Also, you might check in with a homeless resource center in your area, to see if any families have been left behind, & not adopted for X-Mas. This happens in my area, #1, because they became homeless so close to X-Mas & #2, because younger children are favored & only a limited # of families are allocated for holiday adoptions. Even as a single mom, working for a non-profit (i.e., low paying job), Amma's made it possible to beg for these families (i.e., coordinate the adoptons). Businesses can be very responsive, with Amma's Grace. Also, I 2nd. the idea of visiting nursing homes. Only one word of caution. It can be so enjoyable, & you can receive so much love back, that it can end up not seseming like seva at all. I really like the idea of finding gaps in service, that others have missed. You might also ask Themba about participating in "Your Innocent Desire." Regarding giving food to homeless people, when I believe Amma pretty "miraculously" helped me into a homeless shelter job, She literally relayed the message, that I would need to be careful while working with people. Guest guest
Definitely hospitals and nursing homes are places where you can really make a difference to people. You might also try looking in the phone book under "social service" or "volunteer organizations." I grew up in a fairly small town, but was still able to find a number of volunteer opportunities in this way. In any case....Amma's grace will be with you in finding a way to serve. Blessings and best wishes, Iswari > > >> Can anyone offer ideas for seva that one may perform individually, > > >> especially if they live in > > >> an area without a satsang or soup kitchens etc.??
