Guest guest
http://www.newkerala.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=69338 Kalam hands over keys of houses to tsunami victims Kollam, Kerala: President A P J Abdul Kalam today handed over the keys of the houses built by 'Matha Amrithanadamayi Math' to tsunami victims at a function here. After handing over the keys of 500 houses, he congratulated the devotees, planners, architects, builders and service providers who had collectively ensured the construction of these houses within a span of less than a year. ''It is said, that whenever difficult times and calamities occur, the leader will exactly be on the spot of event. It is a divine blessing. When tsunami occurred in Kollam region on December 24, 2004, I saw Amma was in action, helping the people,'' he said. Dr Kalam said it was not only in the Kollam region that the help was rendered but it was extended to all the areas in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Sri Lanka. Similarly, when Katrina hit New Orleans, Amma came to the rescue of the people there also and extended her helping hand spontaneously, he added. He said the incidents reminded him of the days when the Space Research Station was established at Thumba. Dr Homi Bhabha and Prof Vikram Sarabhai were looking for a site in the equatorial region and Thumba was selected but there was a church and a bishop's house in that place. Later, the bishop, Rev Father Peter bernard pereira' of Thiruvananthapuram, handed over the church and his house for a noble cause, he said and added it was because of his magnanimous mind that the Space Centre became a reality. ''When I think of that event, I can see how enlightened spiritual and scientific leaders, all converge towards giving reverence to the meaning of human life,'' Dr Kalam said and quoted the Bhagwat Gita which said ''see the flower, how generously it distributes perfume and honey. It gives to all, gives freely its love. When its work is done, it falls away quietly. Try to be like the flower, unassuming despite all its qualities.'' He also said that the ''Unity of Minds is an important feature of the people of Kerala and it is one of the greatest assets for the development of the State.'' >From the Amritapuri site (includes some pix of El Presidente and Amma): http://www.amritapuri.org/news/12/12house500.php http://www.amritapuri.org/teachings/message/500tsunami.php Keval
