Even though I swore that I wouldn't get invloved this year, I couldn't resist

trying to do something, after learning through a Homeless Resource Center's

case manager, about the low income families who haven't been adopted for

Christmas. So, would it be O.K to put out a request for items, such as used

video games for certain game systems, on this list?

This could wind up being related to two other threads that have been

on the list related to violence in the media and teens. I wrote about

WAIT, a program that Oakland schools have where kids can trade in

their war and violence toys for new toys. Someone suggested giving

the teens gift certificates. I don't have a teenager at home,

usually, so I'm not familiar with video games that are popular. T The

manager of New Beginnings, a place for youth as they come from prison

and get ready to start a new life, complained because someone had

given a video game player and some games, all of which he thought were

ful of crime and violence, racism, sexism, and other content that was

damaging.

 

It would be good to identify some better options for teens, while

we're collecting material for them.
