....To tell you the truth, I think people are getting better, not worse,

about racism, classism. Don't know about ageism. But as long as any of

this exists at all, it's too much. I always felt it was a way for people

to feel better about themselves, by putting other people down. Then

there's culture clash - a whole other issue.Pretty people don't like

people who are less attractive and visa versa. Oh, my head hurts!

These are all things that are on the surface. They have nothing to do

with the heart. The heart really doesn't care about the color of skin,

or money. Mother works her way into our hearts. She takes us to a place

where we can see that all of this stuff is really stupid and we need to

let it go...

Dear Prasadini ~ I really appreciated all you had to say in your post, and

you are so correct. We have been leaving out whole others groups who have

endured prejudice. I also agree with you that it is getting better. Sadly,

yesterday, my hubby came home and told me how his immediate supervisor, at a

public

meeting where students they are helping were attending, told two racist

jokes. I wanted to bank my head against the wall. You would think that, even if

a

person believes this stuff, or maybe they don't but they just think it's

funny (although how they get there, I don't know), at least they would have the

intelligence to realize how inappropriate it is to display this kind of thing

in a public forum. My first husband was Jewish, and his family had a cow,

several in fact. His mother called my mother and told her that our relationship

was "killing his father," who was already in the process of dying of MS.

They did not want a shiksa in their family, and when Alan bought a Volkwagon,

they had another cow. This I understood a bit more, as part of his immediate

family (grandparents) had escaped from Poland when the pogroms started. Oh what

a tangled web we weave ... and it is only someone like Amma, who can clear

away this mess, help us sweep our hearts and minds clean of these ideas, and

help us realize we are all One. Jai Ma ~ Linda
